| | | EF hardware upgrade - Saturday 16.Jul.2011 (Update: Now complete)
We are planning to move EF to new and improved hardware this weekend.
The forum will be switched off for about an hour very late on Sunday evening July 10, 2011.
There might be a few teething troubles on Monday, but with a bit of luck everything will go smoothly.

If any of the animals, especially cats, in all the images recently uploaded happen to die during the move please don't feel guilty about it.

Thanks for scheduling this for when I am on holiday so I don't have withdrawal symptoms.
Very thoughtful of you |

OK, that was a #fail.
We ran into an unforeseen problem.
Upgrade scrubbed until another night.

At 6am this morning we switched to the new hardware. The switch was successful this time.
For anyone interested in the technicalities, we're now operating on a dual quad-core Dell PowerEdge R410 located in Manchester. It has about twice the power of the previous server, and a fresh operating system.
There could be a few teething problems. If you notice any unusual errors please report them here.

If you type the URL without the www it used to redirect the user to the www.englishforum.ch web site. Now there is a small window pop-up requesting username & passwd; a clean redirect is requested here.
