For as long as my heart will beat I shall carry you with me always. Mark, you are one of a kind, noone will ever come close...
After you suddenly died I promised myself and you not to waste my time, to try and take a leaf out of your book and strive to make the most out of every day and every situation. Looking back and seeing that 12 months have flown by, I think about all the things we would have done, and I look at all I have done and hope you are proud.
You were there for me when I needed you, you picked me up, you carried me through and now you've gone, you've left a gaping hole. But you did leave this forum, a community which has been there for me when I've reached out for help. A constant reminder of you.

Although I met Mark only once, what struck me was his his unassuming appreciative nature. I'd like to believe he'd be quite touched to find we were not just holding EF together, but that it continues to grow as a vibrant positive community mindful to his memory, those who were closest to him, and most importantly the ethos he envisaged from the beginning.

With the utmost respect to everyone, especially Lynn, I would like to add my thoughts to this thread. I am doing this only now because I have just come to realize that Mark was the founder of this forum, and that he passed away in 2008.
Mark, many thanks from someone who never met you but who has certainly enjoyed many an hour participating in this great resource you created.
Lynn, I convey to you my sincerest hopes that time has mended, or will shortly mend, the hurt in your heart.
I know how terrible it is to deal with the death of those we love. My best wishes to everyone who has been touched by this misfortune.

March 10th sees the two year anniversary of Mark's death. Anyone who came to the Forum since then probably won't have known the man who through his own gumption, funds and vision gave us the wonderful resource that is the English Forum. If you find this Forum useful to your life here, perhaps have a scan through this long thread to see how he touched so many people and learn about his life. He was a wonderful man and a solid friend. We still miss him. Cheers, Mark.

Thanks Uncle Max. I am glad to see he is still remembered and that others still think of him. It makes me feel less alone to know this.

I came across this forum in Jan 2008 and not a week goes by where I don't check it for something whether just to join in on friendly banter or to ask a question to which there is always someone here to help with.
So to you Mark I thank you for starting this forum and bringing so many people together and helping people in more ways than you would ever have known.
To all who keep it going - well done!
I never knew you Mark but having read about you I'm sure you would be pleased to know so many try hard to keep this forum going.
Thoughts go today to all those who had the pleasure of knowing Mark.

There is nothing more healing than to see that there are still some who show their respect to a wonderful man who, at the very least deserves our gratitude and respect...

That is a tragedy.
I am new to the forum and never had the pleasure of meeting Mark but for his work on this forum alone I am extremely grateful.
Reading some of his many, many posts has been both informative and very helpful to me as a newbie in Switzerland.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Mark, I never meet you and never knew you from outside of the cyber world.
So, there is not much I can say, except I would never think that after I would move to a complete new country, where I knew absolutely NO-ONE that I would be capable of FILLING a restaurant with other expats like me and have such a wonderful evening. This would never have happen without you. I thought about you millions of times tonight, although I never mentioned it.
I owe you so much.

Three years today.
Most on here now probably don't remember Mark, but they owe so much to him and his legacy.
Thinking of Lynn and all those who knew and loved him.

Having joined the mod zone in the past day or so I've seen all the innovation and leadership he provided. Such a shame he's not here any more.
