Dear user,

After a turbulent week we welcome you back to Englishforum.

A week ago, EF went offline for the second time in two days. Both times, the failure was caused by a hard disk with the same production fault.

Following the failure, several admins invested their time to repair the damage and migrate the forum to a new server. I appreciate how quickly they started work and how much time they donated.

In the meantime, EFers were redirected to a placeholder page that Scott kindly provided on his server.

Englishforum now runs on a machine that is under control of the moderators. We will give our best to avoid the server outages that have haunted EF in the past.

The forum may be a little unstable over the next week, as we take a close look at the forum's different functions. If you encounter a forum glitch, I kindly ask you to report it by private message.

Currently the Captcha is inoperable which limits the forum usability for unregistered users. I apologise for the inconvenience.

Again, my thanks to all who who helped with the forum migration with a contribution big or small. Regarding my own involvement, I'm glad that my provider doesn't charge me by email...

I think I nearly *died* without my daily fix on the forum...

enhanced only by the thought of having to stay home tomorrow with all three children who have the flu....and having no forum to keep me sane!

Now the mods control the Forum, could you let us know who owns it and the associated brand rights, donations, hardware etc? Is it still under Mark's estate?

environment. The single change thus far... is the new hardware and
access to it.

We would not be aiming very high if bringing EF back online on hardware under our control was our only goal...
