Forum downtime - Wed Feb 28, 2007 - 08:00 to 10:00

I just wanted to give some advance notice that the forum will be OFFLINE on Wednesday Feb 28 between the hours of 08:00 to 10:00 CET (07:00 to 09:00 GMT/UTC)

The reason for this is that the server is physically moving to a new data center on the other side of Zurich. This means it has to be removed, transported and reinstalled in its new home.

We will also be changing the IP address at the same time, so if your ISP's name server is caching the IP addresses longer than it has been told to, the site may appear offline for a longer period (even though it isn't). But for most people the site should be back online with its new IP address by 10:00 on the day.

Just a reminder to everyone that this work is going ahead tomorrow morning as planned. Stats show that we usually have several hundred visitors during that period so I figured this info may be of interest.

Sorry, I was trying for an earlier window like 06:00 - 08:00 but the guy at the company doesn't seem to want to get out of bed early. He wanted to do 09:30 but in the end I had to settle for 09:00. I would have liked him to have been there at 07:00, but you know what these IT types are like, even when they are taking your money. I shouldn't talk, I'm one of them. Therefore that's the reason for the not so business-friendly downtime window

So sorry Sam, looks like you'll have to do some work tomorrow...
