New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

Ok concert goers. I've set up a new events forum area and a separate calendar for concerts. To get the area off the ground I've already created threads and complete calendar entries for all gigs from the sticky thread for 2009 that aren't over or canceled. Let's see if these features facilitate the navigation through the threads or not. It's the first calendar I've wired to a forum area so aside from user feedback, reports of configuration problems are welcome as well.

Pets can be traded in their own forum area from now on. Please read the sticky threads carefully before posting

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

Nathu, that was some serious rearrangement and effort!

The RSVP function didn't work for me on various concert threads. I was told I didn't have sufficient rights or something. Anyone else unable to RSVP?

Also, is the triple calendar a good idea? We now have social and commercial events on separate calendars - I'll bet not many are aware of this option - and now concerts !

Would it be ker-azy to have everything on one calendar? Thanks for your work to make this work.

I had the same problem with the RSVP on the Summer Festival concert thread.

Lots of hard work whilst being watched over by a little gremlin I think

So far it's a sub-forum - so the overview is a list - unlike the social and commercial calendars which are, er, in calendar format.

That has been a rather busy gremlin...

Can somebody please check:
  • RSVP function
  • Request Reminder link
  • Access to the actual calendar

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

I feel the calendar option is not going to get the attention it perhaps deserves. Is it possible to have next to 'Calendar' a drop-down icon on the menu bar, as 'Search' and 'Quick links' currently have? This way people will see there are different calendars. No point all this effort being invisible

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

The RSVP and reminder functions appear to be working now. I tried this on two posts (Eagles & Summer Festival). I cannot see any of them on the calendar. I assume that I was clicking on the right plce; the Calendar option on the blue bar across the top.

This is the 'problem': the calendar has three sections. Look in the bottom right corner of the calendar and you'll see a drop-down menu for calendar options;
Calendar Jump
Social Events Commercial Events Concerts

select concerts.

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

After clicking the calendar link in the navigation bar, you have to chose the concert calendar in the Calendar Jump menu in the bottom right corner.

A calendar menu in the navigation bar could be implemented and I think it's a good idea, but for the time being our admins are focusing on other tasks.

Edit: Uncle Max beat me to it

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

Just found that I was looking at the wrong calendar. As Uncle Max mentioned, is it possible to make the calendar option clearer. I have also added 3 day reminder to Trail of The Dead. This should remind me tomorrow.

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

From the post with the concert details on, I clicked on the Calendar: Concerts button in the topp left corner. this took me straight to the Concerts Calendar.

I see the Calendar jump option at the bottom now. Shame this isn't a dropdown on the main Calendar button as Uncle Max suggested.

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

Looks good, although I agree when you have the chance it would be good to make the 3 calendars more easily accessible directly from a drop-down on the main toolbar.

My only comment is that the sub-heading under "Concerts" on the main forum listing currently reads:

"Concerts and similar mass events that must not be particularly relevant to expats. Testing phase."

Do you mean MUST not... or is it more like NEED not...?

Just a small thing I know

Not a small thing, I intended to say that they don't necessarily have to be particularly relevant for expats. I'll change it accordingly.

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

There appears to me a problem with subscribing to posts in the Concerts thread. I have subscribed to two of them but they do not show up on my subscribed threads list. I tried to unsubsribe and then subscribe again. My subsription does not seem to cancel.

Reminders is working. I got a message for the reminder that I set up.

Re: New Areas: Concerts and Pet Trading Post

I've subscribed to a Concerts thread with a guinnea pig account, the subscription gets correctly added and the email notification works. Does anybody else have Deep Purple's problem and have you checked the right list?

Thank you for the feedback on the reminder.
