| | | New feature: Arcade
I have now implemented a feature which will help boost your productivity at work even more... A games arcade. You'll find it in the nav bar at the top of the screen, or in the navigation link in the home page.
The idea is that you can play the games and compete to beat the high scores of other members of this forum. I can add more games if they prove to be popular.
If you like this feature please help me out by rating the games from within the arcade. This way I will keep games that people like, and eventually remove the games which aren't so popular.
Please reply to this thread with any comments, questions or suggestions about this feature.

I guess we can also use this thread to discuss aspects of the arcade. For example:
I'm gutted that Richard has thrashed my space invaders score - I ended up with sore wrists and arms to get that score. So like for his tetris score, I think I have to bow out on that one. |

Having just had a look at the high scores and how long some of you spend on these games it begs the question... don't you have anything else to do??? Work? Eat? Sleep?? I mean 8 hours... that really takes a mamouth effort..

It's a bloke thing...
It's related to:
-Most autistic people are male
-We play with train sets, meccano, lego, scalectrix, computer games etc
-We can recite every world cup result for the last 40 years
-As kids we sat for hours staring at washing machines going around
etc
Something to do with needing to focus on hunting that brontosaurus for dinner (or something like that.... )
And before I am accused of being autisticist... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/073...lance&n=283155 http://www.letterneversent.com/index...d-even-autism/ |

Well it's been almost 2 weeks since the arcade was installed and it seems to have become a popular feature.
The top five scorers have already logged 30 hours of gameplay combined! The top two have each spent 12 hours individually (you know who you are boys...)
If anyone has a favourite game that they would like to see added to the arcade let me know and I'll see if I can find it.

You have to find GALAGA. That will sort the men from the boys. |

OK, couldn't find galaga easily, but I'll keep it on my list. Richard now seems to be up to a massive 78 hours in the arcade....

I've added some new games to the arcade this afternoon. Now we'll probably never see Richard again... (93 hours and counting).
I don't think all of them deserve to stay, so vote for your least favourite and I'll kill some off.
At the moment the games are all in the category "New". I'll leave them there for a while, then move them to their relevant categories when people start playing them.

Strange, I get the entire window closing when it is time to post the score. No idea why that is. Do you see the same thing? Is it only with the new games?

Ok, time for a little update on the arcade.
The new games I installed a few weeks ago didn't post high scores. They've all been removed. I've put another batch under the category "New" please feel free to check them out.
Every week or so I'll delete some games and put another batch of new ones in for everybody to play.
How will I decide which ones to kill and which ones to keep? I'll use a number of methods: - Checking how many times the game has been played
- Checking how many high scores have been entered, and if there was a serious attempt between players to beat each other's scores (if it were boring, they wouldn't bother)
- The rating of the game - if you don't rate your favourite games, don't expect them to last long. If you don't like a game give it one star - remember that ratings are an average of everybody's vote.
- Your direct feedback on what you like what you don't like.
- My own opinion on a game (when I can't decide based on the above)
The first candidates for deletion from the existing games are as follows: Balloon Hunter, Bubbles, Frogger (not Classic Frogger), Soap Bubble, Weapons of Mass Destruction. These games will be deleted in about 1 week (pending any objections).
Each week I'll decide whether to keep any of the games from the previous week's "New" batch. I'll use the criteria listed above and keep maybe one (if that) from each batch of ten or so. If a game survives it will be given a category (puzzle, action, etc) and will therefore be moved out of the "New" category. So if you really love one of the new games and think it should stay longer, you need to let me know.
Enjoy the arcade and don't forget to always check out the "New category" - remember high scores will be up for grabs for each new game...
