Tapatalk - for reading EF on a mobile phone

Just came across a handy little app for Android, iPhone and Blackberry users tonight -Tapatalk. It lets forum members track topics on forums and read and reply to topics from a dedicated interface instead of having to scrabble around on the forum via small screens and their version of mobile web.

It's free for forum owners to install on their forums via a plugin, and seems to be quite popular with some fairly reputable ones.

Personally I think it'd be great for EF, but obviously I've got no idea how many members access the forum through their phones at the moment.

Admins / Mods, what do you think? Any chance of adding this capability to EF?More details on the website, tapatalk.com

Sorry to reply to my own post but I was wondering if the admins had any thoughts on this? I'd be really interested in your feedback.

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

Thanks for the suggestion, I think this is a good idea.

Tapatalk is now installed on EF.

This means that mobile device users (such as users of the iPhone or BlackBerry) can access the forum via a special mobile application, rather than via a webbrowser.

To download the mobile application go to the Tapatalk website.

I haven't tested this because I don't have an internet-capable phone. So feedback on problems is welcome.

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

Thanks boss!

I'm posting this from the app itself, and so far have been able to find the forum on the app's search screen, log in, and find and read all sections of the forum including my subscribed threads.

So far so good!

I'm replying using tapatalk on my iPhone. So if this works I'd consider it a success :-)

Thanks EB, great new functionality

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

Another nice touch, if you visit the forum now using your mobile's normal web browser, you get an alert (at least on the iPhone) saying that the forum is enabled for Tapatalk. This is even if you don't have the app installed.

That's actually how I found out about Tapatalk in the first place, through another forum I visit.

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

Hmm im using it now and it seems alright, pretty basic but also pretty fast. would be good for times when youre stuck on 2G data connections i guess. Clever little plug-in... but lacks basic writing features like auto-capitilization after a full stop. see. annoying. Anyone else got the problem, i presume it's not just my phone?

Works on my iPhone too. Typing is the same as per emails and SMS - auto caps, spelling corrections etc.

Hmm it may be Android specific then... because other apps work as normal. Will see if there's anything I can tweak.

Auto-capitalization is an option? I'm posting on a PC ... do we have that option? If so, I didn't know that. see. annoying.

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

I just logged on the the EF from my iPhone and didn't get a prompt for this app.... mind you many other folks have a battery ont their iphone that lasts longer than 8 hours, which I don't

Anyway, I'm in the app store now and there are 2 versions a free one and a paid app, which one works best?

IIRC, the free one is read only. It'd give you a feel for the layout etc, but you couldn't post from it.

The paid one if of course going to have a few more features.... but then again try the free first and see if it works fine for you.

Re: Tapatalk - EF now supports this app for mobile devices

I've just a quick play with it. It seems OK, but I can't really see myself using it in preference to safari - Both seem about the same speed over the same connection.

It seems to have all of the basic features there, inc PMs, but you can't see thanks, groans or rep, or for that matter give thanks, groans or rep (unless I'm missing it), but I see that as outside the remit of this app.

Major bummer for me is no landscape mode on the iPhone. That means it's going to be a pain for me to post.

I'll give it an extended play later on today, Maybe with a better signal it'll show it's true colours.

Nevertheless if you think it'll be useful for you, it seems well worth the 3.30 it costs.
