Hey Ho another frustrating day at work..

Posted 15.02.2008 at 11:07 by JonP
The day that Microsoft actually produces an operating system that I can adequately offer as defence against the Mac loonies, I'm going to go to town on their blog sites.

Until then, I shall just have to content myself with looking at my pay check at the end of every month with a contented smile and feel pleased with myself that none of my clients have got wind of this apparently oh so stable operating system that would put me out of business..

I mean, why, if Mac is so stable and wonderful like the Mac loonies insist, doesn't everyone use it? My simple answer is this.. M$ may have produced an inferior O/S as far as stability goes, but stability isn't everything..

Here's the long and short of it.. I have a motorbike, my wife has a Honda Jazz.. I drive my wife's Jazz more than I ride my bike.. Why?? have you ever tried getting a sofa home on the back of a motorbike? Have you ever tried to fit the weekly shopping for 2 adults and 2 growing children on the back of a motorbike? Have you ever tried taking your child and his mates to the swimming pool only with a motorbike? Have you ever been out in a Snow storm on two wheels?Sure, my bike is an absolute breeze for getting me from a to b quickly and much more fun than in a car, and the summer days when my wife and I disappear off to Friebourg to play on it in the windy road there are great fun.. But day to day driving? Give me the Jazz.

And so the same can be said for the Mac.. Yes, blah blah blah stability blah blah blah video editing.. But the stability of the Microsoft products isn't nearly as bad as the Mac crew make out. Some of the servers I manage haven't EVER been switched off outside of planned upgrades. Sure, that can't be said about all of them, but I know damn well, despite the frustrating occasional crashes, none of my clients will be switching to Macs in the near future, they simply can't do things on Macs that they want to do. On their own, their security is good, but in a networked environment, the security is crud.. I have worked with design studios who employed Macs in a network, and it was the Mac users that complained the most.. Usually the complaint was "Your stupid Microsoft network broke my Mac." Yes, but your stupid Mac wouldn't be able to connect to the internet without it.. Deal with it.

Macs are fine on their own, their a pain in the a**e when they get together in a group and everyone is patting each other on the back and agreeing that the rest of the world is stupid for using anything else, without realising that the rest of the world looks over at the huddle of Mac users with the same distain that they reserve for Trainspotters..

It's a computer, it's a tool, it makes your working life easier, oh good, but please stop going on about it outside of work, some of us have lives.. To be honest, if you're going to start, I'm going to go outside and watch the paint dry or cut the grass or something.
