Hello my fellow foreigners

This is a positive outlook on what Switzerland has to offer. Like they say, "Always look on the bright side of life...".
This Blog talks about getting to know Switzerland, the culture, the night life, saving money in this expensive country, get togethers, language, etc.
Enjoy!
Warm up your winter with clothes that make you confident
If you’re still acclimating to the Swiss winter and if you’re anything like me, you’ve already begun to think about how you’ll survive this 2009/2010 winter. You’ve thought maybe I’ll stay in on the weekends eating Knödelsuppe, Fondue and sipping Kirsch? Perhaps dress in thick jeans, a marshmallow jacket and a double scarf when I actually do go out? Of course not! While all of those things sound nice, I’ve found a better ways to make myself happy when all is wet and gray outside.
Tip 1: Warm up your winter with clothes that make you confident
As a woman unfamiliar with winter fashion, I always dreaded buying winter clothes- I’m California. Naturally when the winter came I would end up dressing like a truck driver. In fact, at the end of my first summer in Switzerland I lashed out at my boyfriend-now husband- saying, “I hate wearing jeans every day, but I can’t wear anything else!”
When I returned to Switzerland the next winter I was better prepared to take on the elements with my sexy red knee-length winter coat, a few pair of opaque tights, boots, and leather gloves. With my new wardrobe I spent less time inside and more time outside having a blast. WOW what difference proper clothing can make.
Here are a few tips about dressing for winter in Switzerland (refer to pictures):

1. Warmth and comfort can be sexy.
Victoria Secret’s wool trench coat in herringbone is a great example of a warm, comfortable and chic piece. The neck-high buttons keep you warm from the neck down; while the belt cinches your waste and helps you maintain your feminine silhouette through the winter. And the two oversized front pockets are great storage for your gloves and train tickets!
2. Leather is in this winter and it’s never looked better.
While this waist length motorcycle coat might not get you through the winter, it’ll be perfect for those chilly days when layers aren’t so necessary. Besides it’s a great standard piece that matches well with a variety of separates.
3. Hold on to those heels, but make sure they have treaded soles.
I love my heels and they’re often the necessary final touch to my feminine winter look. I just have one tip for those unaccustomed to walking on snowy cobble stone streets, buy heels with tread. I couldn’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve almost slipped, fallen, and broken my neck walking in Zurich-especially at night when I couldn’t watch my step.
4. You’ve got to have gloves.
If you don’t have the luxury of coming from a cold country/state/region, gloves probably wouldn’t come to the top of your mind as a necessity for winter in the city. For me, gloves are crucial. Gloves keep your fingers from turning to icicles; not to mention, they’re classic.
I love leather gloves, because they’re warm and unlike cotton or wool gloves, they’re water proof!
5. Tights are terrific.
The only way I’m able to wear a dress half the time is by wearing tights. I know that tights typically remind California girl of their childhoods when they were forced to wear big puffy dresses. Those days are over and tights are now your friend. Tights are almost like a discrete pair of pants underneath your dress. Try them and love them.
So instead of wearing bulky jeans, flannel jackets, and hiking boots, do a little searching and keep yourself feeling great inside and out during the winter.
Now it’s your turn. What tips do you have that have helped you feel better during the winter?
