artist seeks working studio in Zurich

I am a painter looking for a work only studio (not living space) in Zurich beginning October or November, 2006. I need access to a work sink and at least 300 square feet. If anyone knows how to find art studios to rent in Zurich...or if you can connect me with other working artists who might know, I would be so greateful. I work during the day, so I could possibly share a studoo with an artist who works at night.

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

Hello...

I'm a collage artist who just moved here from San Francosco and I'm looking for a studio as well.

I've heard good things about BINZ 39. I can't find a website for them, but I've got an email address for them. I'm still not sure if they are a residency program or if they rent out studios. I'm still waiting to hear back from the director.

Anyway, I guess I'm in the same boat as you are. Please let me know if you hear of any reasonably priced studios in Zurich. I'll do the same.

Thanks,
Jeff

For Zurich people, subscribe to RonOrps mail, a daily newsletter including classified ads from the public. It's more a 'creatives' newsletter so I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting feedback from people who have 'ateliers' to share/lease etc. www.ronorp.ch (German)

Try to call my friend Gregor. Not sure if he can help you, but I know he shares a large atelier with some friends. His number is 0765807965. Sometimes it's difficult to get a hold him. Good luck!

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

How is it generally for artists working in Zurich? What is the market like and what type of clients are there?

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

I met a working artist and designer last week in Zurich and he took me round some galleries. Seems there's a thriving contemporary art scene here. He's based at Hardstrasse and there's loads of studios and galleries in that area. A good show on at the mo is at Philips de Pury & Luxembourg Limmatstrasse 264 - there's another gallery next door, can't remember the name right now.

A great must see event is Trend Boulevard (trendboulevard.ch) over Easter, it's a show for all things in Art & Design, Architecture and Fashion. I'm thinking of taking a stand there myself.

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

Sorry "enjoy the music"... to answer your question(!) Zurich & Basle seem to have a good market for contemporary art, big corporates such as banks always have money to spend. I'm meeting this artist again Friday so will ask where he sells his work

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

Hi

Yeah ok sounds great. I was a designer when i was in England..mainly industrial design. Now i want to begin a career in art (aside from the hifi dealing!). Yeah sounds like an interesting market...i'm a total newbie to art but its always interesting to learn about the scene.

I understood Basel was a big art centre..Art Basel being quite a good show

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

Dear Jeff..
I just today saw your reply about a studio. It seems Binz39 is a residency but at this time they are not giving out any studios. I have also been in touch with SuperTanker at Binz. This is a very modern, new building. There are only larger spaces available that have water, which is necessary for most artists. They are on the sout side and 158 square meters (approx 1700 sq feet)...which would be very expensive for one person. If 4 or 5 artists shared the space, it could be affordable: 850(SwF) monthly for 425 sq ft or 680(SwF) for 340 sq ft. These calculations include 15% utilities. You can see the building and layout at supertanker.ch/ I'm sure there must be other spaces like this...and perhaps not so expensive.
Apparently this is the way most artists manage to rent studios in Zurich...in groups. Please let me know if you (or any other Zurich based artists) are interested...we could meet.
Sincerely,
Beverly

Re: artist seeks working studio in Zurich

Hi All!

I recently joined the forum as I'm looking to move to Zurich in July. I'm trying to make some money on the side through a small online business in the hopes of having enough time and money to continue painting and drawing.

My background is in 3D/2D computer graphics; primarily working on Playstation videogames for Sony. So I would like to find some related part-time work; perhaps architectural visualisation.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Work aside; I'm always looking to get to know more artists so please do get in touch if there are any events on. I'll participate more on this forum once I arrive and start settling down.

Many thanks!
Chris
