How to market a hut in the mountains?

Dear EFers

I would greatly appreciate your input regarding the following;

I have inherited a small cabin in central Switzerland, and I am thinking about how to advertise it as a holiday rental.

I have absolutely no clue though where to start.

1. What are inexpensive ways to market a small cabin?

(The advertising should be as cheap as possible, as the cabin has no real property value (around CHF35K), and has cost me so far several thousand francs for maintenance. So the target is just to get a bit of the ongoing costs back in.)

2. Should I register this as a business to get some tax advantages?

Many thanks for your help!

Market it here! I'm sure some of us city slickers would be more than happy to rent it!

Advertise it in:

1. EF and other forums
2. www.ronorp.net
3. www.ownersdirect.co.uk
4. Social media - create an account on facebook, write a blog, make a youtube video
5. Tell everyone you know who might be interested

Sorry I don't know if it's better to register it as a business. Maybe a tax expert can answer this.

A hut ? Nay Sir, you've given the game away. You mean to say an enviromentally friendly sustainable residence, compact and bijou offering splendid views of the immediately available countryside, fully stocked with brown sugar.

Re: How to market a hut in the mountains?

depends if you really want to run a holiday rental business. if you don't want to use it yourself, the easiest thing might be to get shot of it and pass the maintenance liability onto somebody else...

Re: How to market a hut in the mountains?

Is your mountain hut fairly isolated? Far from other vacationers?

If so, advertise on the pet corner here, and with dog clubs.

Seriously.

When working with my Extreme Belltie, I could not use the recommended training technique - ignoring the little s*d - because of fear of disturbing the neighbors. So in desperation I decided to take him on a training holiday - up on the top of a mountain, far away from civilization and delicate ears.

I was looking for an isolated hut in the mountains - just a basic four walls and roof over our heads, nothing more needed - and I was surprised how few were to be found. As I asked fellow dog owners for tips, many said "what a great idea, gosh I'd like to do that too, let me know when you find a place..."

Who knows - could be a niche market just waiting for you.

Good luck!
