| | | Any Entrepreneurs Using Wordpress?
Hi all, I'm wondering if any of you entrepreneurs in here are using WP (.org- self hosted) for your website?
I am doing it and would love to connect and get together with others on a regular basis for information sharing, workshops etc..
Get in touch!

I am also interested in using it, I have a family blog on wordpress' own site, but would like to also use it on my health coaching site - but have been a bit afraid to jump in, is it difficult to install?

I'm using it for a couple of websites I run for my company, and would be happy to contribute. No WP expert, but learning bits every day.

Most web hosts have automatic installation options - it's more or less a click of a button to get it installed and a website with dummy content up and running.

I used WordPress a lot, for personal and business. In my experience, self hosting is not worth it (unless it's a company with sysadmins). Everything was ok until the traffic was big and then I had to keep fixing my server. I'm now on WordPress.com and very happy about it. I had huge traffic spikes (for my history at least, might not be huge for other people) and I didn't worry.

I talk with too many people who want to do everything themselves (and they even think they are good at it) |

I use wordpress as the blog for our newly rolled out travel website, Swiss-Hopper. The blog can be found at http://blog.swiss-hopper.com.
WP is just an amazing tool. I still went with drupal for the core website as i find is more extensible, but WP is definitely in my good books!

And it is not always expensive, e.g. I use Hostgator that for 10 USD/month allows unlimited everything - storage space, traffic, domains, as well as automatic and guided installs.

I've been using Wordpress for some time now, its a great plataform.
Let me share a link of a great selection of free themes : http://wp.smashingmagazine.com/2011/...-2011-edition/
Smashing Magazine makes a compilation every year of the best free themes they find. I'm going to use 1 of them in a new project i'm doing for a friend.

Actually was actually joking. It actually really depends on what you want to achieve. Wordpress can be great for blogging but Joomla is better for more complex sites. Joomla in a way is acting as an applications server allowing a developer to fully customize extensions, plugins, components, modules, etc in order to achieve the desired result.
It all depends as to what you would like to achieve and what the purpose of the website is. This doesn't mean that Joomla cannot handle a forum based environment (there are dozens of extensions that can do that), however Wordpress seems to be designed for that. If you are looking to create a more complex site which will act more than a forum, the I would strongly recommend Joomla. It is fairly easy to use for the average user and can be extensively customized by a good engineer.
Cheers,
Antonis

Wordpress is much more easy to use for simply posting articles and pages. Joomla is more powerful but has a very steep learning curve. With Wordpress you just write and your contents is there; with Joomla...where is it? in which section? in which category?
Search engins love much more wordpress sites. Also the permalinks are built-in ..not like the (as-they-called-them) Joomla pretty links.
Also talking about graphic themes, I saw a lot of beatufiul website made with Wordpress as the one posted above
ciao! Moderator Edit: New members with links in their first posts tend to get the post, or at least, as in this case, the link, deleted. Far too many of them turn out to be self-advertising.

Joomla might have a steeper learning curve but once you learn it, you are ready to start producing. Joomla 1.7 makes it even easier to do so and so do the thousands of extensions available out there.
Of course to produce something that looks professional, you need to hire a professional. That's the same for all CMS and all web development.
Regarding Search Engines, Joomla and Wordpress are the same towards Google. Google will crawl any type of website regardless of its technology. If you want to have the prefix added in the Joomla pages, then you can easily enable this under Global Configurations and you will have a "static" URL for each page of yours (e.g. http://anadixis.net/solutions/hotel-...rce-management instead of the traditional dynamic coded link). You can see on our website www.anadixis.net this effect.
Cheers,
Antonis
