Letterpress in Switzerland or abroad?

Hi,

I want to print one colour A6 greeting cards, a few hundreds. Matching envelopes, heavy paper.

I have a very reasonable quote from the UK and I would be very happy to go for it. But my concern is shipping and taxes. Has anyone done any letterpress printing in Switzerland/Zurich? Should I look maybe in Germany or even USA?

Many thanks.

Re: Letterpress in Switzerland or abroad?

Hi !

I don't know if it can help you, but there is a letterpress studio in France, in Nantes, that could interest you.
A years ago, the prices was 40/50E for the "plaque" (sorry I don't know the word) for each color, plus 1E for each print.

You can see an example of their print there : http://www.borisforconi.net/blog/inv...de-mariage/897

I don't know how much would cost the shipping + taxes in this case. But I go to France pretty often, so eventually, if you want to work with that studio, you can ask them to send your cards in a post office at the french border, and I can pick it up when I go there....

Let me know if you are interested !
I would be happy to help, I am a letterpress enthusiastic ! And if someone knows if there are letterpress studios in Zurich and around, I would be interested to know too !

Why specifically letterpress..? Other than being a centuries old style of printing, offset (today's printing standard) can achieve far better quality than letterpress.
In case you don't know, letterpress is called Buchdruck in German.

Thanks for all your replies.

Amande, thanks for French link. I will check it out.
miniMia, thanks for info.

vwild1: can offset printing achieve the same relief printing of text as letterpress?
I like that we letterpress you achieve that distinctive look, heavy paper, muted/pale inks.

Offset is printing technique, you won't have any relief with only offset. You have to add a "gauffrage" (sorry I don't know the english word). Offset + gauffrage will give you the same result, maybe even better, than letterpress if this last one isn't very well performed.

But offset + gauffrage is more suited for a big number of prints. This an expensive technique for only hundreds of copies.
