| | | The Wednesday Market at the Zurich Hauptbahnhof
This afternoon I paid a short visit to the Zurich Wednesday Hauptbahnhof Market again, because last week, after trying some hot ginger syrup, I did not come with enough cash-in-pocket.
There are a number of new stalls there now, all quite near our own Men of the Cheese-Cloth.
I am always impressed with entrepreneurs that have the self-drive to start up their own business, and after being introduced last week, this week I spent a short time talking with a young gentleman, Roman.
He is a qualified jelly maker, and has a stall selling syrup, konfituere and gelée. http://www.haltbarmacherei.ch/
Hearing the short version of his life story in the 10 minutes available, it turns out that he started his business in 2010, and is still going strong- it is good stuff!!
In the words of Dr Suess- Try it and you may like it.
Try it, try it, and you may, try it and you may i say.
Have you guys been impressed with anything at that Market recently?
Who has tried the olive oil?

You think that he might threaten the Swiss strong-brands such as COOP's own?
Or is it that this young man has a vision and is putting it into practice?
I am sure there is room in the Swiss market for both.
Feel free to give him some tips and practical assistance on his website, but do try his syrup next Wednesday.

I rarely go, but when I do, I typically get one of those piadinis before hopping on a train. Yum, I love Italian quesadillas.

I stopped going to the HB market ever since GG got complained at about all those customers standing around the stall chatting and having a beer.
Was that ever resolved satisfactorily?
Cheers,
Nick

They are nice, but even after woofing them down with some of GG's finest, the price leaves a bad taste. | | | | | Wrong market UTT, Pie shop are only at the Viadukt. I've got pickled onions coming in a few weeks but not sure how much cheaper we will be able to sell them for though | Quote: | | | | | Yes, I am in love with grumpy's cinnamon bagels. nom nom nom...those who havent tried it, please do.

Nothing will ever beat that (although I had a request for a cinnamon and raisin bagel with cheddar and Nutella.... she was clearly pregnant) | Quote: | | | | | I stopped going to the HB market ever since GG got complained at about all those customers standing around the stall chatting and having a beer. ive often wondered how one gets a stall at the HB weds market. Id love to test a proof of concept with some flavours from my wife's native Oaxacan cooking (southern mexico). open faced street tacos ftw!
as a native californian, i miss the mexican food my home state adopted as its own cuisine terribly, and this chile con carne crap they pass off as mexican food here is not only unsatisfactory, its also expensive.
id love to see if i could bust out a taqueria type stand. seems like in a country with such affection for kebabs in fladenbrot, a taqueria would have an audience, oder?
anyways, if those of you who have stalls there could point me to how it is done and what sort of investment it entails. i'd be appreciative and interested in looking into it.

gläääääännnsche | | | | | oh yes, please God let some authentic Mexican food be served here, if this becomes true I will be a customer. Sadly, I cannot help you with anything other than my appetite and hard-earned chuffs, but know you have a customer base of at least one should this dream be realized.

gläääääännnsche | | | | | Contact the management and apply, then your local Gemeinde and apply for a food handling license. There is a waiting list for stalls unless you have something very different (we had to wait about 18 months as there were too many cheese stalls already when we first applied) and a much longer waiting list if you want to sell food to eat there. And you will be asked to sign a contract until the end of the year so not a great way to trial something unless you start inautumn.
You may be better starting at food events, music and street festivals or at the Expat-Expos

There used to be a Chinese guy selling potted plants. I haven't seen him in years. Any idea what became of him?

Beautiful, sunny day, out about town.
The market is on today.
Off peak hours there is even room between the stalls for prams. I cant guarantee that there is much to keep the little ones entertained.
Though I have heard that adding a spot of mead, also available at the market, to their syrup can be quite therapeutic.

Does anyone know how to get a stall there? Is it just a matter of contacting SBB?
