any international managers out there?

Hi everyone,

I am starting my masters studies in Basel next month and one of my projects will be called Manager's Shadow Project. In order to complete the project I need to "shadow" a manager for 3-5days in his/her everyday tasks and conduct interviews. The detailed info from school is below. I am able to travel within Switzerland where needed for this project, so it does not need to take place in Basel. Unfortunately, my German is not yet up to speed so your working language should be English where ever possible. If you feel you would be up to this please let me know. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. My intent is to cause minimal amount of trouble for you if you are kind enough to share your time and thoughts with me. Thank you!!

An individual student or a group of two students spend approximately five days (consecutive or with intervals, normally between November 17 and December 6, 2012) shadowing a manager and report on what they have observed and learned in terms of applying concepts in practice.

The task comprises selecting the manager, getting in touch with him or her, and being permitted to conducting structured observation as well as non-structured, semi-structured or structured interview. Students should focus on an area of their interest linked to a concept dealt with in their course in Cross-cultural Management and Leadership.

A manager is defined as a person who works within an organisation and achieves goals through and with the help of other people. The manager to be shadowed can be a line manager or a project manager. We should recommend students to pick a manager dealing with a team encompassing people with different cultural backgrounds.

Re: any international managers out there?

Does the shadowing need to see the manager dealing with the "other people" directly, or would remotely be ok?

Re: any international managers out there?

Hi!

Thanks for your reply! As far as I have understood directly would be needed. I can confirm from my school what amount outside the interviews they will find acceptable. I can't imagine that they would expect anyone to burden you all day long yet again I can't base my whole project solely on the interviews. I have a letter from the Dean, which I can send to you that might be helpful. It's too big to be attached here..

I run a Web Design company and we deal with people from all over the place. Don't know if I would be any good to you, but we are fairly flexible
