Travelpleb has no particular reputation at present
I have EUR (cash); I want CHF (via bank or cash).

Like a lot of people, I want to change money and not pay the Bahnhofstrasse gnomes for the pleasure of doing so - on only moderately large sums the commission can run above a grand.

If anyone out there is in the opposite position - if you have Francs and want Euros - I will be happy to swap.

...We could have coffee on the Zürichsee (or anywhere else, I'm happy to travel) and pretend we're in a spy novel as we shift cash filled envelopes between the espresso cups...

Back to reality: I am looking to change quite a lot of money, several thousand. I'll likely be in Switzerland at some point before August, although I don't have any definite travel plans.

Roughly how much? I need to know whether I have enough ink in my printer.

Why not meet at a laundry instead of a coffee shop?

Re: I have EUR (cash); I want CHF (via bank or cash).

Why don't you just put all your EUR in your bank account and then withdraw them at a Swiss ATM? That usually gives you the best exchange rate (and seems rather less shady).

On that note, how are you going to decide on an exchange rate with your money-exchange-spy partner? Seems like one of you would get ripped off...

Well the bank will probably charge 1% for the cash deposit plus a huge spread. A trade at mid market is far more interesting.

"on only moderately large sums the commission can run above a grand"...I love this forum, I always feel I am travelling...on a different planet!

I still wonder how I am going to pay the surprise CHF 1200 TV licence bill in one installment and the garage for the car that keeps falling apart!

If you talk to JRique in "Finance and Taxation", you might come to some agreement!
