I am spending six months in Zurich with my friend who is a visiting professor at the ETH. With an academic background myself, I have been working for some years as a writer and editor, particularly with proposal writing for businesses seeking federal contracts.

Am wondering how to find Swiss companies interested in submitting applications for U.S. federal contracts. I can help them both set themselves up as contractors with the government and create proposals. They would have to be big companies, because the proposal process is time-consuming and expensive. I am more interested in say, construction proposals than military, although I know the Swiss have some military presence with the U.S. in Iraq (I am not anxious to support this, however).

If you have any ideas for how I can work into this niche, let me know. Or if you know any companies interested in these services or in top-notch writing and editing services, let me know.

Big companies have their in-house resources. Most probably they have already established a subsidiary in the US.

A niche would be smaller companies.

Thanks for your suggestion. You may be right and I'll follow your thinking when I look. In my experience in the U.S., however, smaller companies try to do everything in-house and so are the right targets for seeking a full-time job, which I am not at this point. The very large companies have so much work they regularly out-source proposals. There is a whole ecological niche in DC for people serving this need. Unfortunately, most of them are military contractors...
