WP or PrestaShop or Magento

Hi Friends,

We are looking to setup an e-commerce business here in Switzerland, the idea is to get items imported from Scandinavia and sold here in Switzerland.

Beside reading the reviews on the e-commerce solutions available on the market and getting to know the plus and minus of the above solutions. I would like to hear from you on which solutions is the most suitable for the Swiss Market taking in consideration that the solution need to be multilingual compatible with Swiss compatible gateways.

I'm looking for feedback on WP, PrestaShop and Magento.

Thanks in advance.

Fab

Re: WP or PrestaShop or Magento

I have no real experience with either (I have a WP blog, but no shop).
What is your "back office"?
I assume, you will somehow have (or want) to keep the books.
What software are you using for that?

Whatever shop-software you choose should be able to interface with that, right?

Re: WP or PrestaShop or Magento

After plenty of research we decided to use Prestashop for our online shop selling baby and children's clothing. The main attraction to Prestashop was the open source architecture and ability to use multiple languages.

We are very happy with Prestashop and would recommend it to anyone else who is short listing online shop software platforms. Other platforms worth looking at are Bigcommerce and Shopify (though I'm not sure Shopify can handle multiple languages).

Re: WP or PrestaShop or Magento

I used Presta Shop for my solution as I also liked the open source nature. I had a few problems configuring the shop and found that it does take quite a lot of time and effort.

However, that being said I'm pleased that I took the time and I am happy with the end result. I would add that it is really worthwhile subscribing to the Prestashop forum as it is a mine of helpful information and tips.

Good Luck!

Re: WP or PrestaShop or Magento

I can recommend using WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin for the shop aspect and WPML plugin for the multilingual aspect. The set up is _relatively_ easy if you've ever done this sort of thing before and both Woo and WPML are under active development and have pretty good support available.

I've never used PrestaShop, but unless you are setting up a really big site with vast numbers of products I wouldn't use Magento, it's just too complex to set it up and keep it running well for a smaller scale operation.

Whatever you choose make sure you go with a decent hosting company though: one that offers good support and gives you a fair amount of control over the server environment. It means spending a bit more each month but will pay dividends in time saved should anything go wrong.

Re: WP or PrestaShop or Magento

I've worked in a Zürich based e-business agency. Wordpress + Woocommerce and Magento were the CMS we worked on.

I put it simple (in my experience):
If you're going to sell simple (customizable) products, then WP+WC is a green light for you. Otherwise go with Magento, since it's really a good powered e-commerce oriented CMS.

I have no experience with PrestaShop.

And by the way, welcome to the forum
