Food Truck business

Hello everyone!
I'm new in this forum and I'd like to ask you some suggestions on Food Trucks.
I love cooking and my dream is to set up a Food Truck with my family to travel around Europe and Switzerland.
Do you have any idea on the required permissions or laws, certificates or other stuff I must have to work in cities like Saint Moritz or Geneve?
I read some previous threads but they were a bit old and I couldn't find practical info on how to start.. I would really appreciate your help!!

Re: Food Truck business

Hi

I've had that idea for a while now too, unfortunatly haven't found the time yet...

Here is some info (in German):
http://www.derbund.ch/bern/nachricht...story/26181872

http://www.wirtepatent.ch/blog/recht...ake-aways.html

Unfortunately, every Kanton has different regulations. But in general it can be said that:
The administrative part is pretty simple. As long as you don't serve alcohol, you don't need a catering certificate (Wirtepatent). You just have to contact the health inspection department (Lebensmittelinspektorat).

The difficult part is finding a place to set your truck up. Renting a private spot is the easiest way. In most Kantone, you won't need an additional permit, but some do require one.
But I'm guessing you want to set your truck up in the city, where there are lots of commuters. If you want to set your truck up on public grounds, you will always need a permit. You have to contact the responsible police department and apply for it. However, the availablity is limited and there is probably a waiting list.

But as mentioned, I am no professional. Contact the commune or city you're interested in working. They can give you all (correct) information.

Re: Food Truck business

I think there's no problem with that that can't be overcome - unless you actually want to earn money doing so and live off the proceeds.
That could pose a problem, unless you sell something that people will line-up around the block to buy, so to speak.

I think someone was selling one of these trucks/trailers a couple of years ago on the forum he/she had originally planned to go from festival to festival with it but somehow lacked the time.

Ricardo has a few for sale:

Though seeing the price of these things, you really have to think this through...

Re: Food Truck business

This is really useful. Thanks everyone. I too am looking to set up a food truck business in Zurich. My German is basic to say the least so this may pose a bit of a problem! I guess the first step is trying to get in touch with the commune and get some advice from them.

Thanks again

Beth
