Sole proprietorship and unemployment insurance

Hello,

I've read related posts for the last 3 hours with very useful information, but did not find a definite answer for the following question.

I am currently in "chomage" since I've left my corporate career, and doing photography work as a side job for now. I have started receiving serious orders, so I was wondering what to do.

I understand that the best way is to register as Sole proprietorship owner of my photography brand. My questions are:

1 - Do I have to declare "Sole proprietorship" to sell e.g. prints of my photos or shoot a wedding? Cannot I just declare the income in my yearly tax declaration?

2- If I do declare, would I lose my unemployment benefits? My total yearly income would definitely be lower than 100'000 CHF - therefore I will not have to register to the registry of commerce for this year.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My understanding regarding unemployment is that you need to pay into it for 18 of the last 24 months -- so basically if you register with the RAV after 6 months of doing your own thing, they can turn you down.

Hi nanners, maybe it wasn't clear in my message, I'm already in unemployment insurance.

This article from Canton Zurich discusses being independently employed while collecting unemployment benefits, i.e., generally it is not allowed. However, the section on "exceptions" should be of interest, whereby your small photography could possibly be considered as Nebenerwerb or as Teilselbständigkeit:

Every month you must complete a form and send it to the unemployment office, correct? On the form is a question, asking if you have received any money from other employment, correct? Then simply enter the amount you earn't as a part time photographer. You can also ask your adviser. You can also declare it to the tax authority.

You can be part time self employed whilst Unemployed, your actually encouraged to do any work you can to reduce the insurance claim. Be aware that the AHV payments min 475 approximately can be a major hit.
