help with Tax Declaration

Do you know anyone who can help me with tax declaration process ?

As of last year I am self employed - with a registered one-woman-company That which started as a hobby developed into full time job trough an online shop.

I need to do my taxes for 2014 and i am clueless to be honest. My boyfriend is Swiss, so he does have inborn knowledge of such mysterious ways (at least to me as an artist ) , but he has been waaaaaaay too busy and I cant wait for his help no longer. Need to take this subject into my hands.

I need someone who can teach me what and how should I deal with this unpleasant task ...... The clearer - the better.

Can anyone point me in a direction of the TaxMaster?

Thank you muchly
M

Just a local firm in my town in Wallis... I'm sure you can find one in Baden. I just rang a few up and asked how much they'd charge. Dropped all the paperwork off and he had it done a few days later. Simples!

Re: help with Tax Declaration

I've been pleased with the service from Colfina for simple tax return preparation. I've mostly dealt with them through email and snail mail, but it looks like they are halfway between Baden and Basel, so they might not be so far out of your way if you want to talk to them in person.

Very happy with Coifina who dealt with the tax office after I left CH. had I known how little they charged I would have used their services for years!

Re: help with Tax Declaration

Mr. René Siegrist - he is fantastic! He took care of all my Swiss tax paperwork right before (for deregistration) and after I left Switzerland, until all open tax years were closed - which takes quite a while, 2 years or so.

He was great and I recommend him without hesitation, also very reasonably priced.

P.S. The website is all in German, but Mr. Siegrist speaks excellent English. Give him a call!

Re: help with Tax Declaration

Did you think of contacting your tax office and see if you can have someone go through the forms with you? Once you know what you're doing the following years should be easy to do. And their service is free. It never hurts to ask.

Re: help with Tax Declaration

For a simple tax declaration for a person/couple with or without property runs between Chf 100-150 on average.

For a company it's different, it all depends on the scope of the work required, do you want to do part of it and the accountant the rest, however by doing this way, the accountant doesn't save much time and may not take full responsibility.

Umm... get an estimate first. I got billed a couple of hundred the first time I used them. I was sort of OK with the 2x price typically mentioned here, since they had to make sense of a bunch of foreign papers (collected and presented in a spreadsheet by me). I assumed this was the price of slightly beyond "simple tax return" effort. (There is nothing particularly odd here, just foreign bank accounts and the like.)

Happy with that, repeated the following year, but now the bill was 600 CHF. No essential change in the papers, I still sourced and prepared everything. No warning of considerably more work. Not happy.

Learned to do my own since, which just goes to show my return isn't that complex. (I still stress about the return, and missing obvious deductions etc, so there's a price for that.. but no obvious change in the amount taxed.)

Edit: I don't want this to be anonymous bashing. It's just one unpleasant surprise among many positive mentions, and I simply recommend checking whether your case is simple before counting your costs. Colfina was perfectly professional and pleasant, and I don't doubt there was a reason for the discrepancy. One hour easily becomes three if you realise you need to check the rules on some special case, or whatever.

Why put them on a spreadsheet when you can put them directly on the tax form by downloading the software?

My tax return had several hundred extra lines & 46 pages of documentation to go with it. I filled in the forms myself. They checked my return & got 2013 & 2014 accepted by the tax office for 160 CHF.

I can totally recommend Treuhandbuero B.Sutter&Partner in Zurich Wiedikon (Birmensdorferstrasse), Mr. Sutter is really experienced and extremely helpful. Very reasonable priced as well. Good luck with it!

This is what I do nowadays. Except for that extra 160 CHF review. Not sure whether the tax software was available that first year; I got a request to itemise these things from the accountant then, no specific mention of using the software. Count it to cluelessness.

By the way, does the tax software already accept digital submissions of attachments? Haven't found the option, this is the first feature I'd add...
(Basel-Stadt if it matters, not surprised if each Kanton has their own sw.)
