Income declarations for taxes for freelance company

Hello all,

I am starting a freelance company (unregistered) and will be hopefully working with companies in and out of Switzerland on various projects.

I was told that I would need to declare all my income every month and then pay the appropriate taxes/deductions every month as well. Does anyone know if the authorities require bank statements as "proof" or do you just tell them what you have made?

Also, does anyone know how it works with overseas accounts? I might have a client or 2 in the UK, who might pay into my UK acct for facility. Is there a specific conversion rate (government approved) that I would need to use or would I need to declare that income in Britain and not CH because it was earned from a UK company and the money would be staying there, well at least for a while? I certainly don't want to pay double tax, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for any help.

Generally services are taxed where they are performed. If you physically work in Switzerland for UK clients then it would seem to me this work is still performed in Switzerland and would be taxed there. If you fly to the UK and do the work there, then it might very well be that you need to declare that income to the UK instead.

Thanks. It is so confusing. I would be here for the most part though some of the activity would possibly be in the UK as well. Not sure who could tell me these nuances. Trying to keep it the least complicated as possible and not get in trouble with the authorities in either country (or the US where I would also have to a tax return - ugh).

I also just read that if one is a UK national, based in CH but has made money in the UK, the income must be declared in the UK in an annual tax return.

So, back to the drawing board...

Would depend on your permit as well. Not sure whether you have a B or C. Also, whether you are filing tax returns in UK or CH. Depending on the value of invoicing, I guess its highly recommended to hire an accountant / truehand who has understanding of such topics. Its worth the investment to ensure that you do things right..
