Can anyone tell me what the market is like in Switzerland for an Event Planner? Will I be able to find a decent job in this field once I'm fluent in German? Will business be booming if I had to start up my own business and form relationships with various Companies / Contacts? Any views, advice and input will be appreciated.

You might get a more useful response if you rephrased your questions in to those that don't require a crystal ball, and did a bit of background research first.

What kind of events ? Stamp Collector Conventions, S&M Parties, over 28s club nights ?

Thanks for the tip. I'm talking about business meetings, private functions, parties, weddings and Corporate functions.

In which case if your intended clientele are locals then I suggest it will be difficult to break into without a good grasp of the local language - which isn't high german.

Much of the time you will be dealing with local service contractors and tradespeople, who may try lead you up the garden path if you're not careful.

I would suggest working for an established company to begin with unless you have some unique angle that you're not telling us

Yes, I've been told many a time that Deutsch is a second language for the Swiss and I'll have to put alot of effort into learning their language if I'm to be accepted into their community.

You're scaring me. I'm having a hard time as it is getting used to Switzerland and the people. I've been here since September '06 and I just can't seem to warm up to it. I really didn't think it would be this difficult adjusting...obviously I was wrong. The weather doesn't help either. Time to get over it and get a move on. Enough of the blues and more positive thinking.

If you're serious then look into sports events (especially international events) and stuff sponsored by tabacco and alcohol firms - again likely to be international.

There's also pharma and banking of course. A tough nut to crack, I'd say.

As an employee, you might have more joy.
