Starting a business in Switzerland

Apologies if these questions make me sound totally naive, but this is all totally new to me...

With a non-EU passport, is it possible to start your own business in Switzerland? And if so, is there a process to get a work permit through this?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I have the same burning question, so wish me luck!!

non-EU non-married PhD engineer/writer with delusions of grandeur and a month left on my B-Permit who strongly dislikes her current job....and thinks it would be really hard and fishy to find a Swiss to marry in a month...

Re: Starting a business in Switzerland

Many of the cantons have economic promotion / business development offices, which advise people wishing to start a business.
For example, in the Basel region, the office is the BaselArea Economic Promotion Office (www.baselarea.ch). They provide advice and assistance free of charge.

Generally speaking, anyone can start a business (e.g. a limited liability company needing CHF 20,000 capital) as long as there is at least one resident person, who can sign on behalf of the company. The rules for becoming self-employed are a bit less straightforward (normally must be an EU/EFTA citizen or hold a C-Permit, although there are exceptions).

Good luck!

I am bumping this thread, as I am currently setting up my own Physio practice in Basel for English speaking expats and have been struggling with the process.
UP UNTIL NOW.
For anyone settting looking into setting a business up in Basel, I recommend clicking on the 'baselarea.ch' link.
Literally TONS of info,,,,,,idiots guide (just what I need )

Big thanks for this link!!!!

Is there something similar to baselarea.ch for Zurich? Are there any differences in starting up a company?

Re: Starting a business in Switzerland

Hello,
I was trying to find an answer to my question in the forum but couldn't.

Do you know if somebody can work for a company (with non-restricted contract) in Switzerland (EU citizen with permit B) and in the same time open a company on his name as well?

thanks in advance

pso - Try checking out http://www.gruenden.ch/index.php?L=1. Here's the link to their start-up guide in English - http://www.gruenden.ch/fileadmin/use...nal_201003.pdf.
Also take a look at STARTUPS.CH. They are based all over Switzerland, including Zurich - http://www.startups.ch/en/.

ambros - I don't know the answer to your question but as per my suggestion to pso above, you could also try contacting the same companies to find out, plus your local authorities.

All the best to you both.
