Your Idea of cost effective publicity

One of my friend has just opened a domestic service comapny. I don't know whether the words "domestic service" is right or wrong but this company offers services like Shopping for your while you are at work, babysitting, cleaning.

Now the problem is, they are not successful in getting enough clients due to poor publicity as they are trying to run the company with very very low budget statup budget.

I am creating their website to attract some net savvy clients but I suppose this not sufficient enough.
So my dear fellow members her I am asking for your help, please suggest some cheap and effective publicity methods based on your experiences (max budget of 500 CHF). Company operates in and around Bern.

Referals will be your friend's bread and butter. This Forum may well be a very cost effective place to start

Re: Your Idea of cost effective publicity

I used to pay the local children to deliver flyiers, not pay them upfront (as they would have just thrown them over the nearest wall) but each flyer had there own code on and a voucher, eg 25% off, so when one of there vouchers came into the shop they would get some money. Worked quite well, only inital cost is printing the flyer, so some paper and ink for your printer.

Re: Your Idea of cost effective publicity

Word of mouth marketing is quite effective & doesn't cost anything. Try to spread word amongst friends & acquaintainces.

Try advertising in the Commercial Section of EF. This also shouldn't cost anything & am sure can lead to really good referals.

Re: Your Idea of cost effective publicity

Busty Pin Up Girl holding cleaning supplies kneeling over with freshly baked blueberry Muffins. Target the single male too busy to clean, make food, etc crowd. I visited over 30 apartments when I first came to Switzerland, and 28 of them were occupied by this demographic. It's hard to imagine living in a place with wrinkled clothes strewn everywhere, fast food receptacles everywhere else, and un changed animal(cat/dog) litter boxes. But they had the biggest tv's in all of the land! I am totally not kidding. I say this because there are alot of married people that move here that invest some time to get real qualified with years of experience cleaning people. This however would be a total impulse buy, and I really think is not a market focused on. I mean single guy whose apartment looks like an extended stay hotel clearly isn't thinking about it until you give him something that MAKES HIM think about it.

Re: Your Idea of cost effective publicity

The problem with going viral (IMHO) is that if the enquiries/work does start flooding in, you need to have the capacity to deal with it otherwise it could all come crashing down just as quickly. From everything I've seen, there is definitely a market in domestic services in this country so I'm puzzled as to why your friend hasn't had much success. Perhaps a renewed, progressive push in advertising is what is needed, as opposed to a blitzkrieg.
