CELTA is offered in many places around the world. Although all courses are strictly standardized - ultimately no course is identical and it's often the tutors who make the course. So here is some info about us!
Some statements from the last group who all passed the CELTA in August.
"The course was amazing, I really learned a lot and I'm very thankful for your help, feedback and motivation! All in all it was a great atmosphere which made it fun to me"
"Awesome, great, fantastic"
"I loved every minute of this course, it's thanks to your hard work, patience and enthusiasm. I can't wait for my career to begin, I also wanted to thank you for your sensitivity"
"Thanks a lot for all the feedback and support. You guys have made this course so positive and date I say it, I've really enjoyed every day!"
"Thanks for all the guidance and support over the last four weeks. It's been great - stressful and tiring, of course, but also great"
Tutors:
The main course tutor will be a wonderful lady called Beth Grant over from the UK. Beth was my Diploma tutor at International House UK a few years ago and was an amazing tutor. Beth is one of the most experienced CELTA and DELTA tutors in the world. She regularly gives courses in the UK, Russia, Vietnam and Australia. She speaks at international conferences and also has years of experience as an international assessor for both CELTA and DELTA (Diploma) but most importantly she is a patient, wise, nurturing and humble lady who treats everyone fairly and with respect.
I will be the co-tutor. I have almost 20 years teaching experience and a Diploma in language teaching. I have several years experience as a 'teacher trainer' on a local level giving workshops at the school and on a more national level giving workshops for both ETAS and OUP (Oxford Uni Press) I was certified as a CELTA tutor in York last year where I worked on a CELTA course during the summer. I'm also the Teacher Development Chair for ETAS.
Both Beth and I share a common vision in that it's not only the content which is important but equally so the delivery of the content. We both come from the angle of focus on the positive and respect the individual talents that people can bring into the classroom.
We are extremely happy that Beth will join us in the summer and also for our 2nd planned full time course early next year.
Why take the CELTA?
I'll be honest - you can get work without it. But unless you're working for a school with a well established, free programme of teacher development workshops, you often find that you're out there on your own and sometimes lacking in basic principles which could make your classes much more effective. Many schools require the CELTA and certainly with this qualification you stand a better chance of being recruited by a school paying a higher hourly rate.
The CELTA is the most internationally recognized initial teacher training certificate. This means you can work in many parts of the world and earn reasonable money. For example, I worked in Japan, Indonesia, Denmark and Australia and was able to earn a wage where I could live comfortably in those countries. So it's a wonderful qualification to take if you're young, maybe unsure of what you'd like to do yet, and wish to see the world and earn money. We provide lots of contacts and links for those wishing to see the world. Both Beth and I have some strong personal contacts in the Industry the world over.
Anyway - enough talk! Please do drop by or call/e-mail if you're interested. We have only 12 places on the course and some have already been claimed!
