...which is where it's going wrong. Now they're charging - on top of sponsorship - and demanding appraisal of one's worth via virtual interview, it's turning into yet another networking night with all the same touch screen reflecting bearded faces heehawing at each other and being a bit socially awkward. Sorry, I mean being inspired and sharing.

TEDx was good when it was inclusive and open. Everyman - the curious, the poor, the elderly - all joined in previously. Now you have to be vetted.

If you cannot spare 10 minutes of your time for the necessary application and a CHF 50 participant free for the all-day conference, TEDxZurich (and even more TED) is apparently not for you.

I hope I am not alone in feeling disappointed that I won't be able to go because of work during the day and the fact that the TED talks will likely be done by the time I get off of work. Is there a reason why they have TEDtalks on a weekday, during the day, as opposed to during the evening or even on a Saturday?
