Shortly the winter season of whisky events presented by Friends of Classic Malts will be upon us. This time round the lead whisky will be Caol Ila a particu larly good Islay malt - full of peat.

I will post the dates when they are out and also for those partial to a drop of the amber nectar there will also be a Whisky and Dine, Whisky and Cheese and Caol Ila vertical as well as the degustation. As I understand it this time round chocolate (Sprungli) will also be on the agenda with the theme whisky and chocolate.

Cost for the degustation ca 100 whiskies will be SFr. 30 the other things except the vertical are always more whisky and dine is typicall 99-129 Francs...

Locations are noble hotels in St.Gallen, Winterthur, Zurich, Bern, Aarau, Basel, lucerne and lugano. There are also Swiss French cities if anyone is interested. Dates are usually end of November start of December...

Yes please, I love whisky and especialy the peaty ones. I'd be interested in the Zurich dates. Can you post as soon as you know them so I can find a babysitter in planty of time.

Sounds great, particularly the whisky and chocolate. But what's a "vertical"? I usually associate drinking whisky and becoming "horizontal".

Vertical refers to a single whisky ie you will taste maybe a 12 y.o., 18 y.o., 25 y.o. all from the same distillery and learn a bit about the differences etc.

I have a bottle of Caol Ila in my collection, it's very good.

However this is free of charge and the worst they do is send you invites twice per year to future events and allow you to purchase whisky at (often but not always) discounted rates.

I thought I would add the Scotish Malt Whisky Society in Switzerland to this thread. My girlfriend is a member and they organise some good events and sell some very interesting Cask strength malts which they bottle themselves, I'm slowly working my way through some of them.

The Tramdepot runs some regular malt whiskey events over the winter, starts in October usually.
