To keep the locals happy we will also have 7 fantastic Swiss BIO cheeses with farmers Pear bread, as well as a Gruyer from a very small producer that cannot be beat.
Looks like I will only have enough British cheese left for about 20 ploughmans so please e-mail me if you would like some reserved.
the bar is open until 11.30 but we will be gone by about 8, if there is any cheese left Steve will be serving some bar nibbles though.

How come the Swiss locals are allowed to start at 13.00 and we are not invited until 14.00? I bet it's our British cheese that they'll be nibbling away at too.

It's good to see that the microbrewery revolution is taking hold here.

It does start at 1.00 for everybody, no passports needed
Just about to leave, the weather is not looking too good but we do have outside tables under cover so we should be cosy. British cheeses I have left from The Pie Shop event are:
Godminster organic waxed Cheddar
Montgomery's Mature Cheddar
Shropshire Blue
Colston Basset Blue Stilton
Websters Blue Stilton
Isle of Mull Scottish Cheddar
Cornish Yarg
Hawes Wensleydale
See you later!

I'm guessing the fact that you snatched the very last scrumptious bit of Shropshire Blue from under our noses makes this comment about leftovers moot, Longbyt. If you weren't such a *nice* person I'd be bitter . Thank you Mike and Astrid for providing such a yummy spread and for the great company. | Quote: | | | | | You mean we are just getting their left-overs?

For all of you that didn't make it, you missed a really nice event. The weather wasn't all that bad, and the tables stayed dry. The cheese was great, especially the wood chip cheese. The pear bread was also excellent. And it all went well with the Rappi's beverages.

Yes, despite the drizzle we all kept dry and warm. it was a great success for us, we served about 40 Ploughman's most to locals and about 50 Swiss cheese plates. The locals also bought nearly all of our British cheese to take home. About 10 EF'ers came along and Longbyt got the last bit of Shropshire Blue - 8 kilos gone in 2 days, must be a record.
We will be doing this again throughout the year and in winter we will be serving my own Welsh Rarebits and authentic Raclettes
Off to the UK Wednesday to buy lots more cheese

I'm really glad it was a success and that you're planning more events. Please keep posting them! Indeed it was a great afternoon (and evening).
Thanks to all concerned - Mike and Astrid for the Cheese and the EF members (can't name names as I have forgotten one of them - that chap beside whom I was sitting....um..er... ) for making it all both interesting and a lot of fun. | | This user would like to thank Longbyt for this useful post:

Hi Mike, hi Longbyt!
Was fun meeting and eating.
Remember that Dutch gent I was with? Well, on Sunday, despite the dire weather forecast, we decided to hike up the Ortstock
via Bisisthal/SZ (in the back of the Muotatal, there's a cable car up to Glattalp, lopping off 1000 vertical meters).
While being mostly in the clouds, we nary had a drop of rain.
Needless to say, we stopped frequently for a cup of hot broth out of our Thermoses and a nibble of the cheeses purchased
(Heublume, Shropshire Blue (yes, we beat Longbyt to it ), Blaues Wunder and another CH-cheese whose name I forgot).
That Shropshire Blue is now voted "addictive, even better than the Colston Basset Blue Stilton" and we'll put in our orders in a wee bit.
Thanks again for a great event and we'll be looking forward to more!

This is too much to bear: Longbyt makes a chap out of me and forgets my name while everyone else makes off with the last of the addictive Shropshire Blue. I'm first in line at Mike's next event. Bear in mind I grew up in hockey-land and am in a position to body-check anyone who comes between me and that cheese next time .

Actually, at the Rappi event, we worked a two-man team-heist. While I chatted up Longbyt, who was at the table with the booty first, the Dutchman moved in front of the line surrepetitiously and started tasting and acquiring said Shropshire Blue cheese. So you're into hockey, eh?

All's fair in love and war
Faint of heart never won fair cheese
Next event is Highland Games, so I'll really be camping out. Or dare bartholomew to go pole tossing with me. While he's busy getting into a kilt, I'll get the cheese |

PS and then we'll let this thread R.I.P. as an ode to the greatness of the event
That farmer's pear bread got my seal of approval as trail snack, a good replacement for GORP (good old raisins & peanuts):
- quick carbs: the raisins, orangeade etc.
- proteins: the nuts
- slow carbohydrates: the dough and nuts
- doesn't spoil
- pretty crushproof
- very filling
- very, very yummy
- incidentally: goes well with cheese
PPS Marmoset was my user name over at backpacker.com (a backpacking forum where I specialised in deep winter and trail cooking, improvised gear and jungle tech). Somehow "Zwergkrallenäffli" would have gone down a bit as it's an american forum. Unfortunately all my posts have been lost in one of their forum software changes. | | The following 2 users would like to thank marmoset for this useful post:
