City/Town: Zug
Event Type: Special Promotion
Location: Moevenpick Wein Keller, Baarerstrasse 14
Price: Free entry

Moevenpick liked it so much last time they've invited me back for this Saturday. Moevenpick will have plenty of bottles of wine open for free tasting all day and I'll have about 10 different cheeses to taste as well.

This is not the Moevenpick restaurant in the centre of town but the wine shop at Baarerstrasse 141, 6300 Zug. A PDF map is here

I know I promised to get to the other Wine shops and we are working on it. It's down to the individual shop managers at the end of the day, I met the CEO (who is actually Irish!) and he has given it the big thumbs up so hopefully that will sway it.

There is one other booked at Kloten on Thursday 26th March in the evening. They are doing a ladies only wine evening, I'll start a thread on that at the weekend once the details are finalised.
RSVP'd Yes: 2 (2 members and No guests) RSVP'd Maybe: 6 (5 members and 1 guests)
  • Nanda - If I'm in the valley on the weekend...
  • J.L-P - ZUG? I'll get lost again, but then again... .
  • Dougal's Breakfast - I was going to swing by and pick up some Stilton this weekend, but if I have to go to Zug to get it, then so be it...
  • Cat - Keep meaning to make it! Heard so much about 'the cheese'!!
  • Capacitrix + 1 guest - We'll try to make it. Much to do this weekend.
RSVP'd No: 1
  • Mikeybroomers - I'm away or would have been all over this like a cheap suit! Good luck though, dude!!!
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Free wine and cheese tasting all day!

Will there be cheese to buy? We're planning to go to Zug for WOHGA, but we were going to go on Sunday. But if there's cheese, we may have to go on Saturday. Such a sacrifice.

ETA: Map link doesn't work for me.

Re: Free wine and cheese tasting all day!

I will have some cheese to sell on the day, I usually sell enough (or at least I hope to) to cover my costs. This Saturday I'll have 3 or 4 Cheddars, Stilton, Shropshire Blue, Stinking Bishop and a couple of very rare regional cheeses.... all British and top notch! As I hope anyone will tell you though, I am really there to spread the word and have a great day.

Mövenpick are also very generous with the wine samples, I think last time they had at least 20 bottles open, you just help yourself. The staff are also very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. (some nice pics of the store here)

Not sure what's happened to the map on the their web site, but below is the image. Not sure how far it is from the BH, I guess 10 - 15 mins walk or so away from town towards Baar.

See you Saturday

This man is a monster of excessive hospitality.

Ask my liver and my paunch about it sometime...

Paunch: Very well, thank you. Just been filled, and about to be topped up with a pint of 3K bitter.

Liver: Improving, owing to a recent decrease in alcohol consumption under the benign influence of my master's new friend. Still looking forward to that pint of 3K, though...

Then have something else tattooed on your paunch, Mr Dougal. I agree your current "work of art" would not exactly contribute to attracting customers (at least not the type Mr Grapefruit is targeting for his respectable business):

Thanks for reminding me to open a new Wensleydale!

Also a reminder that I am at A Brew & Browse in Adliswil tomorrow morning if you can't get to Zug Saturday

Re: Free wine and cheese tasting all day!

Well that was a great day. I can really recommend Moevenpick for good wine, the staff are very knowledgeable and soooo friendly (not to mention generous with free samples). More already planned!

Sorry I didn't make it along Mike - felt terrible this morning so didn't want to risk spreading anything to anyone else...
