After the last event was canceled due to rain, KMS have announced a new date for their "Schnuppercross" motocross beginners course: 4th July.

It's aimed at beginners either to motorcycling in general or to riding off-road, and people will be split into groups by ability.

The track is near Niederbipp, about half way between Bern and Zurich:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...19312&t=h&z=16

The course costs 120 CHF, plus 150 CHF to rent a motocross bike for the day. I think they can also rent helmets, boots, safety gear but I don't know how much they charge for that.
Update: Apparently all the bikes are now taken, so if you still haven't booked you'll need to have your own.

The organisers: http://www.kms-racing.ch/
The track: http://www.crosspiste.ch/info.htm

The main instructor, Marcel, has assured me that they can do the training in English, which is good because I don't speak any German. So go ahead and sign up - the more English speakers there, the better!

To book, email ramona@kms-racing.ch or call 055 240 71 55.

Re: Motocross Beginners Course

Hello Oliver_ZH,
I moved to Zug recently, I brought my enduro-cross with me but I did not had time to visit any track yet.
The difficult part is to find a training track (there are more in canton Vaud) and (for me) to carry the bikes on the track since I do not have a trailer or a vehicle to carry the bike.
I have a plated enduro-cross that I can drive to the track if is not too far, and from Zug all tracks seems a bit too far.

With Freddy17 (enduro-cross as well ) we will try to organise something at the first chance. I will keep you informed.

Why can't you drive with your motorbike to racing places ?

Depends on the distance, type of road and other factors. Racing bikes like KTM EXC models or Sherco like mine, have been designed for certain usage. They are very light and compact, the engine basement is very tight and it has the amount of engine oil to be employed for certain hours. Aslo valves adjustments might need to be checked after 15 hours of usage.

Riding your racing Enduro bike on highways for many kilometers (even at mild speed) it stresses the engine much more than using it on a racing track.
I am not an expert and you should google around for more informations.
Also the off-road nobbies on tires will get consumed too quickly.

Final note, but not the less important, on a race track you can damage your bike easily. Maybe not seriously, the bike is made for that but you can break a lever or render your bike not suitable to drive back home.
It is always ideal to go to a race track with a mean of transportation for your motorbike. Off course, if we go together we can always help each other, but you will realise that everyone will get to the track with a transport vehicle.

Said that, I still love riding enduro racing bike even outside of tracks and mountain trails. It is just a pleasure that no other bikes can give me.

Re: Motocross Beginners Course

Noes, too bad I missed this post. Would love to do a beginner motocross course. Those who went, do post updates here if you are heading out for more. (Looks like they arrange events every so often, but it might be more convenient with an expat group, re the whole English thing.)

Re: Motocross Beginners Course

This looks cool.

I've done several years motocross and trail, but here is really almost impossible to have fun on a dirt bike!

Good to know that such things still exist.
