Just reminding you all of the upcoming The Italian Lakes trip (October 10-11 2009)

Below is a short description of the trip;

Want to sun yourself on the lakes in northern Italy while Basel is starting to shiver? Lake Como and Lake Maggiore are among the most scenic lakes in Europe; why else do you think George Clooney is living down there! Think quaint medieval villages, picturesque piazza’s and idyllic islands. Nice!

The idea would be to leave Basel at 8am on Saturday morning and travel to Como, 4 hours away. We’d spend 2 hours in Como, seeing the city/markets/having lunch etc before taking a boat trip on Lake Como. We’d travel along the lake to the beautiful village of Bellagio. After a few hours here, there is an option to visit the nearby village of Varenna before moving onto another picturesque village in Menaggio. We’ll spend the night in Menaggio. On Sunday morning we’ll travel back down to Como onto the lakeside town of Stresa.

Before reaching Stresa (and if time persists), we'll visit the stunning San Giulio island on Lake Orta. Stresa is the launching point for our 4 hour three-island boat trip. Today we’ll visit the pretty Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori, relaxing, enjoy fine food and getting some sun. At about 4.30pm we’ll take the train, north over the Swiss Alps through the majestic Simplon Pass back to Basel. We’ll arriving at 9pm.

The per person price is 330 CHF. This price covers return transport (half tax card), a bed in a hostel (including breakfast), walking tours of Como, Bellagio and Menaggio, a boat trip on Lake Como, boat trip to the Borremean Islands on Lake Maggiore and the services of a tour leader.
