03.04.2010 13:00 to 20:00
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Rapperswil
Event Type: Other
Location: Rappi Bier Factory Schönbodenstrass 3

A bit short notice but I've just had an event canceled for this weekend. So, this is the first of 2010, we can't guarantee nice weather so the tables will mostly be indoors for this one.

If you haven't been before, the Rappi Bier Factory is a small micro-brewery run by Steve Hart from New Zealand. He brews some great beers including Rappi Gold (my favourite, like a fresh light Yorkshire hoppy bitter) and Black Bier which won Best European Black beer at Munich last year. There is also Maize beer and a couple of wines as well as soft drinks and coffee on offer at the bar

Turn up anytime from 13.00 - 20.00, grab a beer or five and enjoy a pretty authentic English pub Ploughmans lunch. You get your choice of 3 different cheeses with salad, fruit, bread, chutney (I do have some Branston in stock) and proper strong pickled onions for CHF 19.00.

Cheeses on offer will be:
Cropwell Bishop Blue Stilton
Shropshire Blue
Westcombe PDO "Slow Food" Cheddar
Isle of mull Cheddar
Godminster BIO waxed Cheddar
Appleby's Red Cheshire
King Richard III Wensleydale
Sandhams Crumbly Lancashire
Gorwydd Caerphilly
Sparkenhoe Red Leicester
Charles Martell Double Gloucester
and Hereford Hop
If you're not sure what you'd like, trust my judgment!

If that is too much, opt for a small plate of 6 more unusual cheeses from Stinking Bishop, May Hill Green, Rachel, White Nancy & Harbourne blue goat, Duddleswell & Beenleigh Blue sheep, Wedmore smoked, Exmoor & Somerset Blue..... there's many more but I'm not sure what I will be bringing, together with bread & chutney for CHF 12.00

The brewery is behind the new Kunsthaus on the way out of town towards St Gallen, about 20 or 30 minutes walk from the BH. Plenty of free parking and it is off the road so safe for little 'uns to run around.

Cheese can also be bought to take home on the day. My full stock list for April (PDF file) is here

See you there!

Re: Easter Saturday all day Ploughmans at the Rappi Bier factory

Sounds like a splendid afternoon.

If it's raining, you can get bus 50, 52, 995 from Rapperswil station to Rapperswil, Zeughaus (every 15 minutes or so... and it's only a two minute journey).

Map with bus stops here. Plan your journey here.

Oi mate - it will not be raining - don't tempt that bleedin' fate!

(but just in case it does rain, thanks for the info)

But they will all be gone on Wednesday. Unless, of course, you can persuade me to hide some for you both? Come on ladies, you know it makes sense

Re: Easter Saturday all day Ploughmans at the Rappi Bier factory

Ohh I'm really looking forwards to this event, but still need to confirm with hubby who is away in business, so all depends on him not being totally knackered by the long trip back.

But like your hubby Amaraya, mine can get persuaded by the beer! And so can I! Plus all the yummy cheeses... and to meet some members of EF, well, that really makes it a must not miss!

Is it a kid friendly place / event? We'd love to come but we only just got here Friday and haven't got babysitting options. Understand if it isn't but just wanted to check :-)

If it's dry, there's a fairly big car park area in which children can play in relative safety (it's an industrial estate, so not much traffic at weekends). It's not exactly Wacky Warehouse, but we've all played in less exciting places in our time, no?

Or you could do what everybody's parents did in the seventies: Lock them in the car with the windows down, a bag of crisps and a bottle of Vimto.

Never did me any harm...

Prop the hubby in the corner, on a stool at the bar and we will keep him awake with beer. He will thank you for it the next day (who's driving BTW?)

Kids welcome in the bar and as DB say's, loads of space to run around outside

Dogs welcome too. But I won't be bringing our 2 Rottis. They love cheese far too much.

Just to re-cap - we'll be serving from about 1 - 8 or 9 in the evening. It's not a "posh' place but the beer and conversation is excellent, and the cheese is pretty good too. If you've not been to Rapperswil there's plenty more going on in the town to make a day of it too.

If you are a "maybe" and know for certain yet if you are or are not coming, do please up-date me. I'd hate to run out of pickled onions. I'm really looking forward to this one
