Re: Car hire / Sixt - Any Questions

I have heard that Sixt actively discourages employees from joining a trade union. is this true? If not are any Sixt employees unionised?

Re: Car hire / Sixt - Any Questions

Hi Gary,
Sorry to say, I had a somewhat mixed experience with Sixt during our recent vacation in Ireland.
I asked for a medium-sized 5-door hatch or saloon, which transpired to be a diesel Renault Captur. Never, ever buy one of these pieces of French shite; it drove OK and being a diesel was pretty economical, but was cramped and uncomfortable. The charger didn't work, so I couldn't charge my TomTom, and had to rely on the in-car GPS, which was not exactly intuitive to use and didn't even cover Northern Ireland. Also, the central roof light unit kept falling out, which on bumpy Irish country lanes, was a frequent occurrence; we had to stick it up inside the roof space till we dropped the car off.
When I dropped it off, we discovered a small graze on the rear bumper, which I'm pretty certain wasn't there when we picked it up and I definitely didn't bump into anyone, so can only presume someone bumped me and drove off. It's a tiny graze and the guys at the airport insisted it would get repaired (really?), so I insisted they send me before and after photos and a copy of the invoice from the garage. I never take out additional cover, so expect something in the post soon, but nothing has turned up as yet.
This is my first experience with Sixt and I have to say, I'm not impressed. I normally go with Europcar, but they were slightly dearer. In retrospect, I would have gladly paid a little more for a better vehicle. I don't think I'll be using Sixt again.

Have you checked your credit card bill??? chances are somewhere buried in the terms and conditions will be the authority to charge directly. Given the number of rental cars I've had in the UK with dings, scratches and scuffed wheels, not to mention one from Avis that was so badly beat up that I refused to take it because I wouldn't be sure that I had got all the damage marked on the floor.

Also they will charge admin fee and loss of earnings from the car as well ( at least that's what the rental company said would happen) which I said would be fraud as they would charge every person the same amount for each of the scratches and dings that were repaired, so effectively claiming multiple loss of earnings even though it will never be repaired, fortunately I returned the car unscathed

Re: Car hire / Sixt - Any Questions

Hi PaddyG,

Sorry about the delay. I guess this is the Dublin hire that you didn't book with Sixt

Please send me the details of the Broker booking and whilst we are not responsible for this rental I will do what I can to expedite the process.

Thanks
Gary

They're the best cars to have - as long as you can persuade the guy to just put a big cross through the diagram to indicate multiple damage - usually with "All panels and wheels have multiple scratches and/or small dents".

Late flights into Gatwick used to ideal for picking up such cars. The Heathrow fleet (Europcar) tends to be in better condition

Re: Car hire / Sixt - Any Questions

Just want to say I had great service from Sixt this weekend. Gary got me a good deal on a 9 seater Ford mini bus from Manchester airport which was almost brand new and was a dream to drive all over the North York Moors. Staff were friendly and efficient and the pick up and return were easy and smooth. Will use again for sure!
