High-German and/or Swiss German lessons for adults, teenagers and young children

Hi everyone,

My name is Lianne Fatzer and I am a qualified, experienced High-German and Swiss German (Züri-tüütsch) language teacher. I teach both languages to adults, teenagers and young children.

High-German and/or Swiss German for adults:
  • I offer both private instruction and small group classes (2-4 people - a discount applies per person per hour for these small group classes).
  • I teach both those with no prior knowledge of German to more advanced learners (A2-B1).
Lessons for those with no prior knowledge:
  • Instruction at this point takes place in English, with the aim being that conversations in the target language take place, of course, in German.
  • More and more German is gradually integrated into the lessons as your level increases.
A2-B1 level:
These lessons are taught solely in German. (Of course with the flexibility of switching between German and English as/when the need arises.)

Scope of lessons:
  • Lessons focus solely on practical, day-to-day conversation and “survival”.
  • New grammar and vocabulary is woven progressively into the lessons. (Topics progress gradually in complexity as your level of German increases.)
  • My teaching style is very flexible and dynamic and I work with a variety of different materials in my classroom, ranging from roleplays in various real-life situations, newspapers articles and texts taken from books, to music.
High-German and/or Swiss German for teenagers and children:
I also offer High-German lessons and coaching, as well as Swiss German lessons, to teenagers and young children. If your children are in need of additional High-German lessons outside of school, or are interested in “crossing over” to dialect, I also have the experience, education and know-how in this area.

Location and cost of lessons:
All lessons take place at my house in Au/Wädenswil.

A bit more about me:

I was born in Australia and relocated to Switzerland in 2007. I taught myself both High-German and Swiss German since my arrival and, as such, understand the nuts and bolts of both languages far, far better than my other mother tongue! Consequently, I have a wealth of tips I can offer you on how to properly learn these two languages. Personal experience also enables me to help my current students not just with learning the language, but also with further tips on integration and overcoming the initial fears of speaking a foreign language outside of the classroom.

Activities outside the classroom:

For those who are interested, field trips to a number of Swiss wineries could be arranged (in German, at a small fee) or Apéros at my house with my other current students, if you are new to Switzerland and looking to meet more expatriates/looking to meet people with whom you could practice your German outside of the classroom.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Lianne
