| | | British food coming to Gland
hopefully this will not be seen as a business advert... I have nothing to do with this (other than being a supporter of Jim and his market in St. Genis ( FR )
. Jim’s is opening in Switzerland !
We’re very pleased to tell you that, after much searching for a suitable place in Switzerland, we have now found one in Gland and if all goes well, we hope to open a “Jim’s” before the end of November. Finding the location was the first step and now we are concentrating on having the products cleared by the Swiss authorities. This is a bit out of our control, hence we cannot give a definite date yet but we will keep you up-to-date with progress.

Are you opening your own market, based on Jim's, or is Jim himself transferring from France to Gland?

I hope the new one has a tea room as well! |

According to the e-mail yesterday he's still working out some of the 'importation of goods' problems, so will be announcing the new shop's opening date later.
Personally this new shop will be no nearer for me as I live on the south side of Geneva, but it's great news for others!

There is many things I dont understand in this world. One of them is: "Out of all the things you would want to export from England to anywhere else in the world - why choose food???"

Don't take things so seriously.
And I feel honoured to be "terribly close to being the exception that proves the rule" when defending my national gastronomy from someone who clearly doesn't know anything about it! Go on, do it. Groan me. I can take it!

Oh and don't worry. I don't post about things I haven't experienced myself. While I admit I quite like a good pub meal every now and then, I was forced to eat plenty of horrible stuff over in England. Went to language school in Exeter when I was about 16 and despite the fact that my host family had listed "cooking" as one of their hobbies, the meals seldom took them longer than 3mins to prepare... So that probably had a major influence for my disliking of the british cuisine | | This user would like to thank tomberli for this useful post: | |

Apologies all round - my excuse is that it's Friday! All posts made in jest anyway, obviously (at least I hope it was obvious!).
Tomberli, maybe you should take yourself down to the Birtish shop... you might just get a pleasant surprise...

And no it hasn't impacted my ENTIRE view of ALL of the British cuisine. There is a lot of food I really like in England, but to be fair it's usually Asian food.
But that's beside the point, it was meant to be a humorous comment. As a (reasonably) neural observer it just amuses me that there is stores with British and American food around the world - but I haven't really seen and German, French, Spanish or Norwegian stores exporting their stuff to the rest of the world.

I live in Gland.
Never heard of Jim's before looking at the website, but I also have to confess that the import of British products doesn't terribly excite me. Especially if they'll be priced for a Swiss market.
I'm sure Brits love their foods just as much as anyone but it never was anything for me to write home about. Oh well, will at least give Jim's a looksy and see what the fuss is about.

Spent my fair share of time in England and other parts of the Commonwealth, eating what there is to eat. Chances are you probably wont turn me into an English food lover anytime soon. And I don't think it's worth the rest of my day and a 100.- train ticket down to Lake Geneva just in case...
I just find it funny how personal people always take the issue of food. It was really just a small, silly comment. If I whinged about British politicians or trains people probably won't care.

Erm... I don't care...
Anyway, back on topic, I will certainly check it out if I'm down that way! Thanks for the tip, Grynch.
