American piano teacher Rebekkah Laeuchli
offers three week piano course in July, for all ages and levels. Lessons are twice a week, in lengths of 30, 45, or 60 minutes. The perfect way to try out the piano, refresh skills, or work intensively on specific repertoire. Beginners
If you or your child are looking to try out the piano before signing up for regular lessons, this is a great introduction. For very young children the format of short piano lessons twice weekly is the best way to begin learning, as quality instruction time is much more important at this stage than a weekly lesson with practice at home. For adults or older students just beginning this is a chance to learn the basics and begin discovering the possibilities of the piano. Intermediate to Advanced
The two lessons a week offer a student the possibility to focus intensively on piano for three weeks, learn new repertoire, develop technique, or discover new areas of playing such as improvisation. Special Themes
Aside from traditional piano instruction it is also possible to incorporate a special theme into the lessons; options include: composition, improvisation, music theory. About the Lessons
With young children beginning to discover the piano it is important to begin develop their general musical abilities as well as lay the foundation for good piano playing.
Lessons for beginners include learning to play by ear (both new pieces as well as already familiar children's songs), developing a good feel for rhythm, and singing. The basics of early technique are taught through play over the entire keyboard and the building blocks of musical notation are introduced.
For more advanced students lessons focus on repertoire that ranges from early classical to contemporary. Lessons include development of basic musicianship, music theory and history, ear-training and technique, according to the individual level of the student.
The central focus of the lessons is for students to have joy through making music, and this applies to instruction for adults as well as children. Every student is different, so every lesson is tailored to meet the individual interests and strengths of the student. About the Teacher
Originally from the U.S., Rebekkah studied in Budapest, Hungary before coming to Basel where she completed her Bachelor degree in piano at the Musik-Akademie and where she will finish this year with a Master's degree in music education and a minor in composition.
Rebekkah is active as solo and chamber performer, both in Switzerland and abroad. She teaches at the International School Basel and also has numerous private students. Rebekkah's international training has given her an exposure to a wide range of methods and teaching materials, but the need to stay open and creative to the individual needs of each student remains very important. Above all, it is joy in music and expression through music that motivates her teaching as it does her own piano playing. Dates and Location
