I sampled some at the Xmas party and they were all very good. The nightmare factor limits my consumption unfortunately.

Cheesy Nightmares

So you must be referring to the nightmare of the EF Party Dave? I really enjoyed it - slept like a baby

Re: The Cheese Club! Great British Cheese tasting Pack for Christmas!

What can be said about the cheeses Grumpy brought over for "afters" last night without sounding too, well, cheesey?

As different from anything else available in Switzerland as chalk and cheese (ouch).

The Stilton was the pick of the bunch - creamy, rich, and strong and all gone, dammit.

The Montgomery's Mature Cheddar was a good, traditional style from Somerset and would make an ideal starting point for a ploughman's. If there was any left.

We moved on to Berkswell, a hard sheep's cheese that was reminiscient of a mix between the crisp, palate cleansing attitude of French goat cheese with the strength of a good parmisan.

Finally a softer cheese from Ireland called Gubbeen (well, it would be wouldn't it) that was all nutty, and aromatic, and eaten.

Quote of the night was from Jenny - "That Stilton made me cry". It can't get better than that .

I'll think of you as I let mine reach room temperature. I'll think of you on rations as I cut into it, in all its splendor and creamy crumbliness.

I never realised you were such a poet Bob. I would be tempted to offer you the position of Chief Cheese Taster - but that means I would have to resign first

Re: The Cheese Club! Great British Cheese tasting Pack for Christmas!

Wow, it's been just over a year since we started this Cheesy thing, and thanks in a large part to the English Forum we've done pretty well. During the first 12 months we have imported close on 2 tonnes of cheese from the UK and have converted many Swiss to the great cheese we make in the British Isles.

Comments from the Swiss include "we had no idea you could make cheese in Britain!"

Our first cheese offer consisted of 4 British cheeses, this month we have about 35 different ones, all from small farms and dairies and 3 good value tasting packs (all 35.00 CHF each plus delivery), one specifically for Christmas which includes Stilton, Sage Derby and Wensleydale. We can also prepare smaller gift packs for your friends and work colleagues and can cater for aperos at work or home or at our new tasting rooms in Thalwil.

Our full cheese list is on this PDF and not all of them are on the web shop so please e-mail me if you'd like to order some. My personal recommendations are Shropshire Blue, Harbourne Blue, Swaledale cow, Sparkenhoe red Leicester, Snowdonia Black Bomber, Lincolnshire Poacher, Stinking Bishop and Single Gloucester.

Please feel free to ask me any questions about any of our cheeses, in most cases I have met the cheese makers, and in some, even the cows!

We can send out with overnight courier or you can collect from our new shop in Thalwil or at some of the many events we take part in such as the Pie Shop in Zurich and at Mövenpicks wine shop in Zug.

So, thank you everyone who has bought from us, supported us and visited us at our many events in our first year. We couldn't have done it without you!

Mike & Astrid
