this is very true...

with a PC, you can easily find help. With Mac, it is hard to find help (and very expensive when you find it.... the only guys I know who do Mac troubleshooting are in Geneva and they charge 189.- CHF / Hour!!!!)

Well I know there is a place in Nyon called pumpkin that do Mac advice etc.
www.pumpkin.ch. Looks like they have a phone line for 2.50 CHF a minute.

Although you could try asking me for advice. Well if you are using MAC OSX that is. I'm not apple certified in fact I'm Microsoft certified.

note: as in here,

they would charge you 2.50 CHF /minute for telephone help... that probably means that if after a one hour chat at (60 minutes X 2.50 /minute)=150 francs!! they determine that there probably is a hardware issue and they need to send you a specialist, then the specialist would at least be billing you 150.- CHF per hour Plus transportation fees Plus the price of the piece of hardware to replace!!!!

At this rate, frankly, you'd better call me on 079 664 35 21 and get a BRAND NEW PC that I guarantee for you for THREE YEARS!!!! (guarantee officially on bill) for less than the money to repair your Mac!!!!

All I say is don't believe the hype MACs have just as many problems as PC's. just the error messages are not as criptic. More like "it failed live with it reboot" other than error 85003345678 memory could not be read due to failure in the warp core and the dilithium crystals have a crack in them oh and would you like to continue Yes No or maybe

Why? To me a technical problem with a Mac is much simpler than one with a Windows PC.

Yes Sir. but how many like you are out there ready to go to people's houses and businesses to fix their computers??? very few...

I guess that depends on your personal experience and technical level. Most people who buys MAC's or at least the ones I know of buy them because they want their machines to just work and not get involved in the configuring / fixing of their machines. Some have had bad experiences with PC's and think a MAC will fix that. Wrong, my Wife hates my Imac. Mainly because she has to switch between PC's at work and an Imac at home.

Also commercial support for Mac's is some what less than PC's due to market share etc. Which is Marc73's point. What we have seen out there so far is looking is really expensive.

Well if it's in Swiss Romande and I earnt me a few francs from it, kept me off the streets (and this forum) not a problem. Oh it would probably have to be in English too. Although I have configured a Macbook in Swiss German for someone a few months ago. Oh what fun.

There are so many hardware peripherals that are simply only-for-windows.

The same thing applies to software...You not always can find an equivalent for Mac, and when you actually find it, most of the time, it is many folds more expensive because it is a tiny market...

Desktop Linux is a tiny market, and when you actually find an equivalent of a Windows app, most of the time, it is free. Small market doesn't always equal high price.

The lack of software point is exactly why I run my iMac with boot camp. I can either boot into XP or MAC OSX. Most of the time I use Parallels Desktop software which allows me to use the XP boot camp partition as a Virtual PC. You need plenty of memory to get a reasonable performance outo fit. I'm using 2GB. With 1gb for Mac and 1 GB for XP.

I also have an install of Vista as a virtual machine. Although right now Vista is real dog slow run virtually. So no difference from running it physically.

you are right... but of all the people you know who are not computer professionals, how many use Linux and how many use windows??
