Why can't I post here? Posting guidelines for advertisments

We welcome the posting of commercial messages in this area, however our members have decided that in order to post something here, you must also have contributed to other parts of this forum.

Contributing means sticking around and replying to a few messages, or starting your own topic. We have many different subjects under discussion, therefore it should not be difficult for you to find something that interests you.

Once you have posted 10 messages, and 7 days have elapsed since you joined, you will automatically be given the ability to post in this area. Your ability to post in other areas will not be restricted, you can post anywhere else as soon as you have completed your registration.

Please do not post other people's messages for them. If you have earned the right to post here, you should post messages which either promote your own business, or a business with which you have a very close connection.

Any advertisement posted here should be relevant to the expat community. This means it provides a service that expats are often looking for, and almost always provides information in English. A business which provides a generic service which can be obtained anywhere (e.g. services on the internet) does not fall into this category. If in doubt - ask first.

If it becomes obvious that you are posting worthless messages simply to be able to post in this area, or if you post commercials in other areas, your messages will be deleted and forum moderators reserve the right to exclude you from further use of this system.

In addition, other forum members may use the reputation system to lower your reputation if you are seen posting advertisements without contributing to any of the other discussions.

So in summary - we'd love to help support our active community members by having them post adverisements for their businesses, we hope you understand our position.

Please also read the guidelines regarding how to write your advertisements which can be found here:

Promotion/advertising with this forum - guidelines and info

How do you become a moderator? Staying on topic is a start (like I'm one to talk)...

Re: Why can't I post here? Posting guidelines for advertisments

I know... So now what should I do? I don't want to lock down the events section since someone might be posting a commercial event on behalf of someone else (which is usually useful and ok). Maybe I'll just delete that event and warn the user (who posted this as his first post)

I think first post is a little cheeky unless they run it by you to be polite.

Simple, manageable and I would say realistic?

Re: Why can't I post here? Posting guidelines for advertisments

Just checked the guidelines for events, and there is nothing posted explicitly. I guess I should update it then.

Read the sticky about commercial postings: it has been written to explain Forum policy. Your post comes across as Spam, which does you no favours.

Re: Why can't I post here? Posting guidelines for advertisments

Hi,

sorry, I'm confused, but I can't seem to find the guideline - what is one allowed to post?? Or, conversely, if I want to market my Coaching practice on the English Forum, how CAN I go about that without someone deleting my threads??

Thanks, Minna

Re: Why can't I post here? Posting guidelines for advertisments

if ALL you want to post is to advertise your services, you will not get far. The idea is to add value with your posts and also with your offerings. Offering discounts for EF members, for example, will get you more slack than just coming in with post #1 being "buy this".

I'm sure you don't want to sponsor a forum per year - you know, pay money to get your advertising seen? You just want to punt for free?

What I mean is, is there like a market place like in Glocals where one can post offerings?
