I troubleshoot your Mac, help you with iPhone, iPod

Hey guys, long time no post... and this time allow me a bit of advertising

I am a Mac guru.... actually, all things Apple. I offer all kinds of computer related services, and here are a few highlights:

-Mac OS X support
-Problem troubleshooting
-Upgrade OS (to Leopard or your system of choice)
-Adding Windows (dual boot) to your Mac
-Connecting to networks
-Installation, repair of applications
-Office, connecting to VPN's and Exchange servers
-Cleanup, checkup
-Training
-iPhoto, "i" everything - cleanups, migrations

-Apple hardware support
-Macbooks, iMacs, Mac Pro...
-Troubleshooting
-RAM and Hard drive upgrades

-"Switching"
-Have Windows and hate it? Get a Mac!
-Did you know you can also use a Mac at work?
-Corporate networks, Exchange servers... no problem!
-I will help you choose the right machine and save money
-...and make the transition super smooth

-Backups
-Whether you want to use built-in Time Machine or a custom software
-....but don't know how to get started
-I'll set up a very easy backup strategy for you in no time, so you never have to worry about losing any data
-Backup before system upgrades
-Network backups

-Networking
-Have several computers? Mixed Windows + Mac landscape?
-I'll get them to talk to each other, share files, share the screen, etc
-ADSL and Cablecom support
-WiFi, wireless network setup, troubleshooting

-iPhone and iPod
-I can make that iPhone work for you just like you believed it would before purchasing!
-Your iTunes library is a mess? Let me clean it up and make it tidy.
-iPod syncing issues

-Offices
-So you are setting up a new office,
-thought about getting Macs but not sure whether they'd do the job
-believe me, they will!
-Installing corporate networks, wireless or cabling, printing, scanning
-Remote file access
-Mail accounts, etc etc
-VOIP phones

-Pro applications
-Not to brag but I know quite a bit about Apple's multimedia apps such as:
-Final Cut Pro
-Logic Pro
-Garageband, etc...
-So if you're looking to get some studio gear give me a call

-Did I mention I can fix Windows too...

The best part is... I come to you to take care of your problems - be it your home or your office. And will only charge you if you're happy with the solution. I can also LISTEN and let you explain the problem/symptoms in detail.

I speak English and German.
Will charge
CHF 100 / hr for private
CHF 150 / hr for office visits.
(incl. MwSt)

Typical problems are solved within an hour.

I really know this stuff inside out and I don't bite so don't be afraid to give me a call
Plus, I go against the "swiss way of life" by working at odd hours if necessary. Late night or Sunday calls are no problem at all.

Greg - 076-400-GREG
(076-400-4734)
Entire area from Zurich to Bern covered.

They are, in my experience an average user just needs to be able to open a browser and type "google" to solve common mac [navigation] problems.

Going into the CLI/writing your own appleScript requires a bit more bottle and expertise however.

The windows dual boot seems to have gotten easier with the latest release of bootcamp too.

Then again, there are always people who will need help/a hand to hold. Hope you get some work chap.

Typical Mac users need more help with getting things started and streamlined than actual troubleshooting.

I agree that the switch can be problematic for some - it's quite a different way of doing things.

I switched from linux to mac (and linux) so it wasn't so difficult for me.

Again, I hope your business goes well.

Re: I troubleshoot your Mac, help you with iPhone, iPod

I have a Macbook Pro and I would like to know:
  1. How to keep the folder view with all the usual sorting options when viewing Spotlight results (i.e. with date created, size, type etc.)
  2. How to set default searching parameters for Spotlight (for example, I would like to always include System files when searching)
  3. Have my widgets inside a solid sidebar on the desktop such that windows cannot be moved under it (this is not possible by simply moving them out of the Dashboard). Additionally, I would like the widgets to disappear when I am viewing a video in full screen mode with VLC or Zattoo.
  4. How to not have Mail.app mark email messages as read (i.e. leave them in bold) as soon as I click on them in the list with the preview window active. Outlook and Entourage both have an option to not mark emails as read even when the preview is active and Thunderbird has a timeout setting. Can a similar behaviour be set for Mail.app, somewhere in a plist or a hidden configuration file?
  5. How to configure iTunes so that it doesn't add opened MP3 files to its library but just to a temporary playlist which stays only until the application is closed, i.e. like Winamp.
  6. What are the keyboard shortcuts to do short incremental volume changes on Windows? Shift-fn-alt+volume works on OS X but not on XP/Vista.
If you can solve all the above problems, I will pay you for your services (price to be negotiated).

Please send a PM. While we're okay with Greg530 having a commercial post here, this isn't a computing support forum.

Greg530: Do you have some sort of website set up describing your business? If not, you should create something to address what services you provide.

The intention of my posting was also to gauge Mr. Greg530 and his purported competences in the field. Potential customers should have an idea of the quality of service they will receive.

Do you also have the car mechanic pass a quick test when you drop off your car at the shop?

I can solve some of those problems and recommend workarounds to others.

gregv: I don't have a website as this business is not a full time activity. I just enjoy doing it. I have business cards though!

For further technical stuff: send me PMs.

Greg

Thank you for posting! I may need your help with some iDisk issues (totally my lack of knowledge I'm sure). So nice to hear there's an English-speaking Mac person here in Zurich. I'll contact you when I'm ready to work on it. Thank you!!!!

Re: I troubleshoot your Mac, help you with iPhone, iPod

Dear Greg,

Do you also have expert knowledge in other areas of IT set-up? I would like to set up a computer/entertainment area downstairs for our family, but I can't seem to find a company that knows what they are doing - or who also will charge a reasonable price. Is this something you do privately, or do you have your own company?

best regards,
Alphornmama

Alphornmama:
Absolutely! I LOVE doing that! I have set up many "networked media sharing" solutions and entertainment "corners" before. It is amazing what you can do with your music/movies these days.
Or if you simply want to watch your HD movies from your computer on a big screen...
There are so many good and bad products out there. I have hands-on skills with most of them so I am confident I can hook you up with the solution that you will enjoy the most.

I charge you by the hour but only for the time that is also of value to you.
I need to know what you have in mind and then I can be more specific. These solutions are not as expensive as you might think (or some might want you to believe)!

Please send me a private message with more details -- or just let me know how I can contact you best. (The pre-sales part is free of charge )

PS. I am a "one-man business".

Regards,
Greg

I guess when car mechanics start posting here and saying that starting and streamlining are the biggest problems, we'll set 'em a test...
