Re: Gourmet British Food & Beer shop opens in Thalwil, 1st November 2008

We're open this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons (until 8 pm Thursday) and on Saturday from 10 until 6. Jack will be along to give a free tasting of his new hand made chocolate selection - they will also be on sale in very attractive gift boxes.

We will also have small pies from the Pie Shop, Steak and Kidney and Chicken and Cumberland Sausages, Black Pudding and traditional back Bacon from Colin.

Hopefully Bob will have caught up with demand a bit and there will be some beer to try and buy too.

The following Saturday we will have new products including a large range from http://www.hawksheadrelish.com/ including serious chocolate and chilli fudge and the very popular Chillilli. Only for the over 18's! Also we will have our first delivery of tea from Whittards of Chelsea - the kettle will be on all day for a free tasting.

See you there!

Re: Gourmet British Food & Beer shop opens in Thalwil, 1st November 2008

As already mentioned on the Pie Shop Mince pie & stilton thread we have just confirmed an order for hand fried potato crisps from Burts of Devon. These are completely natural, no artificial flavours or other muck. They should arrive end of next week and I doubt they will last very long. Will confirm prices once they clear customs.

Flavours coming are Mature Cheddar, Seal Salt & Black Pepper, Bacon, Chilli Lemon, Parsnip & Black pepper and Mixed Root Veg (Parsnip, Carrot & Beetroot). Their web site is pretty good!

They are very Politically Correct chips, even the salt is Free Range and is fed on a BIO diet from a sustainable source.

Colin just delivered Cumberland Sausages yesterday and more bacon, we'll be open this afternoon until 6.00 and from 10.00 - 18.00 tomorrow. Bob will be opening a barrel of 3K Bitter for free tasting in the afternoon and it must be drunk within the day!

I'm talking to a retailer in Geneva at the mo who will probably be stocking some of our cheese (not bacon though). I'll confirm when it's all going ahead.

Lol! Free Range Salt- visions of grains of salt happily grazing in big open fields, living a wonderful life (unaware of their future) are in my head.

(geez, what was in my cereal this morning)

Re: Gourmet British Food & Beer shop opens in Thalwil, 1st November 2008

Delivery is in now for this weekend for the Burts chips, Picallili & Chillilli (and other chutney's) and proper fudge from the people who make Kendal Mint cake. Saturday we'll be doing free tea tasting from Whittard of Chelsea and then cracking open some ale (and wine) in the afternoon.

Next week our Christmas cheese selection arrives, about 40 different British and Irish farmhouse cheeses including Lanark Blue and Stinking Bishop as well as about 7 different Cheddars including Snowdonia Black Bomber. If you want an unusual Christmas gift pack for your Swiss friends and family send me a PM or e-mail - they do go down very well!

Saturday Dec 6th (in the afternoon) we'll be offering a free tasting of some very special Single Malts from The Whisky Experience

Mike, the snow forecast for Flumserberg looks huge! (we wish we were there this weekend) Are you going to be able to make it down in the morning to open the shop?!

Will the Single Malts also be available at the Pie Shop event, or will we "have" to visit both?

Only just made it down in the morning (I left before the snow ploughs started) but had to get the bus back up at night.

Sorry, you'll have to come to both! Whisky in the afternoon and then pies and beer in the evening.

News about the shop - Bob has had to stop brewing on the premises due to the neighbours upstairs not appreciating the smell. The new brewery (with bar) should hopefully be running soon. His beer though will still be for sale at the shop in Thalwil.

The shop is now fully stocked with tasty goodies, the Burts chips and hot chocolate selection took quite a a pounding on Saturday though. 40 new cheeses are fighting their way through customs as I type and this coming Saturday you can taste them all for free. Some old favourites like Shropshire Blue and Stinking Bishop but also some new ones including about 7 different cheddars.

As Nathu points out, we have an on-line store for the cheese but I am working on a separate one for the shop, we won't have the full range of goods for sale through the web site but will concentrate on gift packs and hampers.
