Music Courses for English Speakers

The Adult Education program at the Zurich International School is constantly offering a variety of courses for English speaking adults (not only for parents and staff members, but for the whole community) throughout the school semesters.

At this moment I would like to announce the opportunity I will have to offer two different courses as described below:

Music Appreciation: Where we would talk about the historical development of classical music, listen to a lot of music, learn about the composers, go to concerts together, and more. This course is designed for people who really like to listen to classical music, who enjoy going to concerts, who would like to become more familiar with the historical periods and their characteristic styles, and who would like to gather tools to identify the various styles using expert musical knowledge.

Music Theory: Where we would deal with learning how to read and write music, become familiar with symbols used in musical notation, practice rhythms, learn about chord construction, transcribe music, and more. This course can be very useful to amateurs musicians who do not know how to read/write music, to people who would like to refresh concepts learned a while ago, people who plan to restart learning/playing an instrument, singers who need reinforcement in theory, and parents who would like to be able participate more in their children's musical studies.

There will be also the possibility of shorter seminars on a specific opera presented at the Zurich Opera House (offered upon request).

All courses need a certain minimum amount of students to happen, so if you are interested, maybe it would be a good idea to tell your friends to also contact the instructor.

The Music Appreciation and Music Theory courses will last for 6 weeks and should start on the week of April 27. Meetings will be held at one of the campuses of the ZIS once a week for either 1,5 or 2 hours (location and duration to be decided).

Price: 22CHF per class hour (full course paid when enrollment is open)

Please, send a message to Carina Joly at joly.music@hotmail.com mentioning:

* What course you would be interested in taking
* What week days/times would you be available to take the course

Further info can be requested through email to the instructor.

Visit the instructor's website

Visit the ZIS's Adult Education Program website

NOTE: At the moment, the instructor is just recruiting prospective students. The enrollment should be open at a later point in April. The instructor will provide all interested persons with further instructions regarding enrollment.

Re: Music Courses for English Speakers

Hello,
Maybe now is too late but I am interessted to refine my music knowledge, specially classical music appreciation.

My question is if the course is already in progress and if maybe I can still join?

Regards
Alejandro
