Beginners skiing/snowboarding course

GOOD NEWS! GOOD NEWS!
I have some contacts at the International ski school in Flumserberg.
I organized a SKI/SNOWBOARDING course for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS in February with the school.
I had to turn down some people then because there were not enough spaces.
Well, the good news is that I am organizing another course in March,
so those who are interested, please let me know before it gets full.

Please note the course will be conducted over 4 weekends (4 Saturdays)
The! course fee is 200 CHF.

Please note that the registration will be done on a first come first serve basis. 10 people for skiing and 10 for snowboarding.
If you are interested, please email me and I will get back to you with the registration process.

Course starts on 7th March 2009
Day 1 - Saturday, 07th March
Day 2 - Saturday, 14th March
Day 3 - Saturday, 21st March
Day 4 - Saturday, 28th March

Cheers
Ehsaan

Re: Beginners skiing/snowboarding course

I guess not...because this is something similar to the International ski club of Zurich...

This is what each person pays to the ski school...

I am just trying to get a group togather so that all those who are interested can benefit out of it.

Cheers

200 per person ?

Seems quite high.

How much will be if the fees are shared per person given a number of participants ?

I think it rather depends on how many hours of teaching are being given for this amount. Four Saturdays - normal ski school would be two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon each time. Then it doesn't sound so bad.
However, I'm not sure how many absolute beginners want to start now anyway, towards the end of such a super snowy winter! If one was keen to take up the sport, one will have done so already - especially members of a Forum where people have been going to the pistes together.

That is the standard fee for the ISC, and in my view it is pretty good deal. I did it a couple of years. 4 hour group lessons for 4 Saturdays. Work that out on an hourly basis and good luck trying to replicate such a price on your own with a ski instructor (lessons given by Eire do not count)

Re: Beginners skiing/snowboarding course

We've managed to arrange a private lesson for 170CHF between three people. This works out as 56pp, for two hours, but we were able to keep the ratio (Student/instructor) small and direct exactly what we want to learn. In my book far better value, you'd probably get more out of two of these lessons then 4 lessons in a group of 6 or 10 people.

I don't disagree that smaller groups are better but I was quite fortunate usually that about half the people would not show up by week 2 so the group size was only 4 or so. Plus they did a good job of breaking the groups to relatively same skills. I wasn't at the Absolute Beginner level and it helped me find a group of similary skilled expats to ski with prior to the EF existing.

This would not apply to Abs Beginner course though (as athletic skill levels will vary significantly).

I once went on a week's snowboarding course a few years ago where everyone except me had dropped out by the third day so I had, effectively, private instruction for the last two days.

That doesn't say much about the instruction! When I was making my living as an instructor (not snowsports) I would have taken it as a sign of personal failure if that had happened!

I think you're probably right - I'm not sure I learnt as much as I could have.

The reasons people gave for dropping out included lack of physical fitness or a preference for skiing could easily have been quashed by a fantastically run course.

Re: Beginners skiing/snowboarding course

I did the ISCZ 4 Saturdays 09:30-15:00, with the SSS at Flumserberg (who are the international school?). Our instructor was great, but there was a lot of fannying about waiting for people who were late, had problems with there hire kit etc. I would question now if it's worth it so late in the season, as by the time a beginer gets a little confidence the season is all but over.

my personal view is that absolute beginners can learn much quicker with small classes or invidual lessons....of course that may not be affordable to most. At that level, your improvement is going to be hampered by the slowest learner in the class.

Re: Beginners skiing/snowboarding course

Very true, and by the time you waited for the stragglers you spend 20% of the lesson standing around waiting, then the lowest denominator kicks in. For numpties like me it was good to get the basics, but I was lucky and got some 1:1 tuition and that's when I really started to see a difference.

I do agree with big E though, this is selling something so should be in commercial.

It was not your fault Eire, I simply didn't like it. And just wanted to reduce one accident-prone activity.

That's all.

You seem to have taken it personally because now you have your little feud with me here and over there where you are "Not Salsa Lover"

See, I do this things to have fun and keep me fit. no other strong feelings move me.

Free and happy I am.

Hi Ehsaan
just spotted your post from last session, would you know from your contacts if it's possible at such short notice to get ski lessons this weekend "3rd, 4th. 5th maybe 6th Dec" in Flumserberg?

//long shot question but though i'd pump the forum and ask
