About 9 months ago the Cheese Club stopped stocking any cheese that wasn't British, so we have decided to change the name to the British Cheese Centre of Switzerland.

If you don't already know us, we import only the very best British farmhouse cheeses. At any time we have between 20 and 40 different cheeses in stock (that's more than most cheese shops in the UK) as well as lots of gourmet crackers, oatcakes, chutney's and jellies. Our current cheese stock list (PDF file) is here.

As well as selling from our stall at the Zürich HB Wednesday market, we send cheese parcels out by post every Thursday to arrive with you on Friday morning (we use Priority Post and haven't had any problems so far). Delivery charge is CHF 9.50 and free for orders over CHF 120.00 - many customers group orders with colleagues at work to get free delivery. We also have our 9 best sellers always in stock at the Jelmoli Gourmet Factory in Zurich. More outlets around Switzerland will be coming soon.

We also arrange and take part in events all over Switzerland. These consist of cheese suppers and Ploughmans lunches at Spiffing Ales and the Rappi Bier Factory and some free cheese tasting events at places such as Orrel Füssli English book shop in Zurich (next one there this Saturday July 4th from 11.00 - 17.00) and the Moevenpick Wine shops. The tastings are free and we always serve the cheese with wine or ale (again free). You can of course buy cheese to take home on these days, but it is not expected! Other events already booked are the Highland Games at Fehraltorf & Fribourg, Expat-Expo in Zurich, Geneva & Luzern and the Christmas markets in Luzern and Rapperswil.

Some other things we do that you may not know:

• Catering for parties & Apéros at your home, company or other venues - anything from 8 - 250 we have handled so far

• Educational and fun workshops pairing our cheese with Swiss wine, British Ale, Single Malt whiskey etc

• "Cheesy Wheels" - we bring our mobile cheese counter to your company, club or school, again, free tastings and sales.

• For English teachers and language schools, we can work with you to prepare a lesson based around a British cheese tasting. These are very popular with the students and they get to learn new vocabulary and something about British food and culture. We have done most of these as the last lesson in a term.

• Wholesale to shops, restaurants and hotels.

Good luck with your relaunched venture. It is good to see someone apparently doing well in these difficult times.

Thanks everyone. We're still in the early days and it is pretty tough, but everyone says we're doing the right thing. We just need to be able to survive the next 11 months when our new exciting retail outlet opens in Zurich.... more later!

Mr Grapefruit's growing enterprise deserves the best location. The new Apple Store should recognise that it has greatly overestimated its popularity and accept to relinquish its spot to the more promising Cheeseclub Inc. I can however only guarantee success if supplies of Rachel Goat are continuously sustained and plentiful.

Somewhere much more funky (not to mention a tad cheaper) and there will also be beer and pies.....

More Rachel will be along in the next month or so. It is indeed our favourite goat

There was definitely sheep cheese ... tried some, although I bought other cheeses - and my beloved chillililli!!

A lesson tasting may be the go for my class, sounds interesting indeed ... perhaps on an afternoon, with a tasting for parents & staff following on immediately ... pairing British cheese to Swiss wines would probably be the go for the latter part ...

i was there a bit early and was not able to see mike, I will probably visit the shop these weekend. I really am craving for that sheep cheese.

Tomorrow (or today if you're reading this on Saturday morning) we'll be offering free beer tasting (from Rappi Bier Factory & Spiffing Ales) with all the cheeses in the shop - as usual I'll open a few wines as well for those that don't like ale.

Cheese of the month for July is Coolea from Co Cork (more like butterscotch than cheese) but the Red Cheshire and Cornish Yarg are also in top condition.

The shop is just 5 minutes walk from Oberrieden (See) BH, free parking on Saturdays is now just 100m up the road from the shop. I'm on public transport tomorrow so I'll be joining you all in the beer tasting!

Hot off the press! We have finally got our stall at the Zurich Hauptbahnhof Wednesday market. Nearly two years on the waiting list and we finally got in by agreeing not to be just a cheese stall, so we will have lots of Gourmet foods from Britain which will include 2 different cheeses each week (although you could place orders from our full stock list to collect on the day - under the counter as it were).

First off is next Wednesday 22nd July, cheeses will be Isle of Mull cheddar (the particular cheese I am cutting at the moment is as good as a cheddar can get) and Colston Basset Stilton.

Next up is the 5th August (they're missing a week) when we will have Godminster BIO cheddar and our best selling Shropshire Blue.

I'll be driving back from the UK in 2 weeks with lots more cheese, as well as the Godminster and Shropshire, I will also have plenty of Black Bomber, Poacher, Sparkenhoe Red Leicester, the infamous Lanark Blue (AKA the Kilt Lifter), Duddleswell BIO sheep from West Sussex and the very lovely Somerset Rachel Goat (named after the makers ex-girlfriend, she was sweet, curvy and slightly nutty). I'm trying to get the Smoked Wedmore in again too.

Please congratulate Mr Humphries for me if you pay him a visit, Mr Grapefruit. I can hardly wait to sink my teeth into his exquisite and voluptuous creation. I am champing at the bit to champ at the bit, as it were.

Do you know Peter Rusty? I met him last year and he's certainly the king of British goat cheese. One if his other creations, Ticklemore, is now made by his neighbour. It's much lighter, almost meringue like. He's also making Little Wallop for that rock guitarist come farmer, can't remember his name. Not bad but too expensive.

I won't be seeing him this trip, the cheese will be sent to London for me to collect.

Unfortunately I do not have the pleasure of knowing Mr Humphries personally. I just came across his name when researching information about Rachel Goat. The story about naming the cheese after his former fiancée had piqued my curiosity and I wanted to verify that said lady was indeed as toothsome as the product (that information I could not find, however).

I might drop by next wednesday mike, just to pickup some godminster. it will all depend whether or not my job load decreases by then.
