Re: Photographer available

If I may be so bold as to offer -hopefully constructive- criticism of your web site, Mr Neilson, the design and layout you have opted for do not do justice to your fine work.

For starters, your layout is not resolution-independent, i.e. it does not adapt to the size of the user's browser window. Consider the amount of wasted space on wide-screen displays and the scrolling effort needed on smaller devices such as mobile phones. In my opinion, adaptive layouts allow for more flexibility and a better viewing experience, because it places the user and his/her viewing context at the centre of the design.

Then, I find that the navigation interface is considerably unwieldy. The area the mouse has to hover over to activate the icon panel is too small and the scrolling to select a photo is not intuitive (the mouse should not have to be positioned in the middle for the scrolling to stop). In my experience, it is more effective and user-friendly to clearly separate the navigation interface from the main viewing frame. Users tend to prefer simple, clear UIs over fancy Flash effects.

Mouse wheel scrolling on your text pages is not supported.

Sometimes menu clicks are not registered by the interface.

Last but not least, I find that music adds nothing to the presentation, worse, it detracts from it.

I see that Photobiz provides several types of layout templates you can easily switch to. Maybe there are better alternatives available?

Re: Photographer available

Hello ,
Many thanks for your costructive critique. Its appreciated. I will take a look at what posative changes can be made. As far as the music is concerend, well thats down to personal taste, and it can always be turned off if required. This is a flash webiste, and i understand the constraints it puts on older pcs. But again thank you very much for your critique.

Re: Photographer available

FYI, I am running a modern PC with the latest versions of IE and Firefox.

The music can be switched off, but it is reactivated every time I select a different gallery from the menu.

Wedding & Portrait Photographer available

My website is now working in both html and flash. If you want to see it in flash, then you have to download flash10 from adobe.
Otherwise it can be viewed in HTML.

Re: Photographer available

Hey I really like your landscape and urban photos.

I am not so sure about the event photos, you seem to have a lot of pictures of peoples backs and behinds, this kind of detracts from the rest of the quality on the website.

Also, some of your wedding photos seem to be contrived, like you have gotten a friend to pose as a bride to set up some wedding shots (no groom?) Some of the wedding shots have some dsitractions also like blurred out blobs in front of the bride and groom which does not add value to the shot.

I just mention this to give you feedback on the impression on face value, its a good website and as I said really like the landscape work.

Re: Photographer available

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my site , and for your critique. The photographs are in no way contrived, the bride was a genuine bride wearing her Dress. The shoot was done after the wedding in order to get the effect she wished. As you can see further on on the same page there is a completely different style of wedding. Different styles of photography suit different people and unfortuanately you cannot please all of the people all of the time . My customers are happy and for me thats the most important part of my work. I try to show as varied a selection of photographs as i can . The event photos you mention show the recent street parade in Zurich, and as such the pace is very fast, and as i said i like to show a variety of styles. Once again thank you for taking the time to look and your commentar.
Karl
