Re: British Pies have arrived

Received the delivery yesterday, fired up the oven and had a pie for dinner! Steak and Ale was pretty tasty : nice chunks of meat and delicious gravy! Sadly the Vegetarian option was a bit too spicy for the girlfriend but she has got her eyes on the Chicken & Ham option that is waiting in the freezer !

Thanks for the delivery and for this opportunity to get some PIES!!!!

Received mine too, thanks Spacey.

I have seen some mushy peas in a Zurich shop but can't remember where. When I get those bad boys added with some mash and gravy I'm going to be in pie heaven...sluuurp.

Got my delivery yesterday too and they were delish! One steak and ale and one chicken balti shared between myself and my girlfriend.

Good job Richard! Will definitely be ordering more.

Re: British Pies have arrived

I didn't think the veggie were spicy enough. They were overall very tasty, although I would have preferred the filling a bit more varied or chunky.

I look forward to the fish ones once their re-invention has been given the thumbs up.

Thanks again, Richard.

Had the lamb and mint last night, very nice, I agree with the above comment a bit more meat would have been good but they were still very VERY good

The feedback is very useful. Lamb is tricky for pie producers due to the cost of lamb. I tried quite a few lamb pies (for research) and found most stuffed with one vegetable or another. I felt the purepie offered the best balance with a rich flavour. Of course there are pies stuffed with meat but the premium price wanted by the producers, would add another Fr5/6's per pie which I felt would push me out of the market place before I had even begun. Perhaps I can look at a premium range (venison etc later in the year)

I'm afraid purepies are one size only. I had found quite a nice family pie made by Denby Dale Pies in Yorkshire, although that had a puff pastry top.
As is always the case it is a question of demand and as transport costs are high I prioritized the pies I felt would sell quickly. I'll keep a review on family pies.

I will have a family pie for summer in my pork pie line up, although of course that is a different kind of pie.

We (5 of us) had a Pie Supper yesterday, and there wasn't crumb left! Very good taste and the pastry is just how it should be, too. Looking forward to another delivery whenever possible! Thanks again.

I haven't tried a Hollands. When I go next to see my brother in Chorley, I'll try one.

I'm doing a run Friday afternoon in and around Luzern/Zug/Zurich. If anyone needs a pie fix for the weekend, just let me know.

I've only just started on the first batch that I bought from you! ha

Had the Steak + Ale which was very nice. I thought they were a good size and the meat was tasty, nice big chunks. Also liked the pastry and thought the shape of the pie was kind of cool.

Looking forward to noming the next one.

Steak and Ale is No 1 in the UK (I had one last night, very tasty). Lamb is a good rich filling. My Swiss friends like the spice in the Chicken Balti.

It's a bit of run to Basel (1hr 40mins from where I'm based). If you can whip up some enthusiasm from other Baselites, then I would be happy to come out. It's just a question of covering the driving to and from.

Alternatively, if you have a favourite deli or pub (Mr Pickwick?) I could see if they would hold a stock.

Re: British Pies have arrived

Had a veggie pie again last night. So after two sessions, my overall conclusion is they are very tasty and good quality. Could be a bit spicier; def need more substance in the filling.

The shape is very cool.

Alright then....I'll have a Steak and Ale, one Balti and one Veggie....I'm in between Basel and Zurich...would that cover your trip to Basel for the other fellow EFer?
