Ex smokers are the worst. Or even worse are the ones who "are giving up" but still nick your cigs when they get the urge!!

These threads just amuse me, which is why i jump in every time.

To be honest, i shall go on smoking as long as i enjoy it. And shall still respect non smokers and their odd foibles.
...and you shall be respected by normal non-smokers too...

..or by the lake in my neck of the woods. If I come too close to smokers and the smoke bothers me (and sometimes it does), I move a few metres away. There, problem solved. What happened with live and let live?

None of the teens around here ( including my 15 year old son) think that smoking us cool. Obviously by your reckoning they must not be 'cool' either.
They don't live in Ticino, so clearly not!

Anyway, they certainly DO around here.

To be honest, people of your age don't really know what's cool and not cool - they just think they do!

I used to be a smoker ...... but now I'm just self-righteous.

Although, when I'm really old, I do see myself going back to smoking ..... sitting in my rocking chair, in the corner of the platform, smoking my pipe, watching the world go by.

So I noticed....and they made me feel sooo old.... (I obviously don't find it "cool" anymore and I don't even think that's the right word anyway, but I did thought it was sort of...interesting back in the day...)

But really, you're right about Ticino. It IS something else.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

I agree, that is something i noticewhile being here ins switzerland, the amount of people smoking is so unbelievable, and they always happen to blow their smoke in your face and on your clothes. I always go to pick up my wife and smell like smoke. For goodness sake, cant you be more considerate!!! Drives me crazy most days!

Smoking on train platforms is almost as annoying as having to overhear a half-dozen inane cell phone conversations...

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Smoking on the platform of a surbuban Swiss railway station is not cool.

Smoking Gauloises from a soft pack, lit with a zippo while driving a drop top Citroen DS through the streets of Monaco is.

If you read any thread about smoking and non smoking, you will note that i have every time said that i do not blow smoke in peoples faces. I hate it when it's done to me too!!

It's about time you non smokers respected us a little bit too. We have given up a lot to put up with your namby pamby silly moans!!

People smoke here, they smoke in public. They shall continue to smoke, just live with it. At least there aren't open sewers running through every major city, then you would be complaining!! Probably because someone took your favourite pooing patch outside the pub.

(did i really write that!! Ha Ha. I'll leave it!!)

Smoking Gauloises from a soft pack
Alas, that's why I stopped smoking, as, when I returned to the US, there were no Gauloises unfiltered to be had, and all the available stuff had no taste.

"society has deemed" listen to this guy talking like he 's got a clue.
I dont smoke but I can tell you for a fact that society has not deemed smoking in public unacceptable.
Society has deemed smoking, alcohol, drugs and rock'n roll acceptable however the administrators of society have deemed that smoking is now costing society more than the taxes it brings. Administrators dont care about anything else other than resource management.

in a majority of Cantons, good smoking bans were voted into effect by the PEOPLE and not by what you call "Administrators" while some Cantons had to adopt the lukewarm minimalist Federal Smoking Ban

Yes I agree with the whole issue however I just moved from Vaud to Schwyz and guess what.... they even smoke in the restaurants here...
Great

I do not believe that you went by helicopter and so you drove over the SMOKING CURTAIN between the Cantons of Zürich and Schwyz so that while Restaurants do not allow Smoking on the Zürich side except in Fumoirs, in Schwyz a Restaurant owner can declare his place to be a "Raucher Platz"

Only in the Fumoirs but NOT in the bars and Restaurants which all are NON Smoking. Many smokers in ZH HB get outdoors for smoking

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Smokers who smoke inconsiderately are inconsiderate gits and will continue to be inconsiderate gits even if they gave up or smoking was entirely banned. I assume it's only the inconsiderate gits who are responsible for the the cigarette butts littering the gutters, tram and rail tracks, and, in winter, the ground around the ski-lifts.

All those smokers who aren't inconsiderate gits have my full respect and toleration. Given the sheer volume of smoking related rubbish in the environment, either the inconsiderate gits smoke in stupendous amounts, or you are a minority.

yes voted by the people because swiss people are known for being independent individualist unbiased thinkers. NOT. in a country with such high per capita income and purchasing power yet the majority of people rent do not own their home...

maybe you have not noticed how capitalism works and that every community has administrators with well known names and political positions. I could list some examples where you will see that every major company in the community and political positions share the same last names...

again, working in unhealthy environments and taking part in unhealthy habits is not something that the proletariat masses do after well researched thought out decisions. The masses do what they are guided to do by the administrators/politicians/community leaders and the president (7 presidents in the case of switzerland...)

And thats why Switzerland works so well, because the masses are very simple minded and follow very well. Control is the key to the swiss formula. And thats why I love Switzerland.
