Interesting new research hints that the correlation between long term smoking and schizophrenia might actually be causation with nicotine being one of the triggers.
Wow, then you'd have to quit smoking twice!

If your other personality half was a non-smoker it would be hell for you!

I do mumble to myself occasionally!! My mum caught me out once, i said i was talking to the cat. She then pointed out that she did not have a cat!!

Oh well, at least when i die of terrible lung cancer i won't be alone.

By the way, relieving cravings for an addiction isn't really enjoying something - you're just basically getting back to the level of contentment of everyone else
You clearly don't understand it, but there's a lot more to enjoying a ciggie than simply staving off a nicotine craving. And as millions of occasional smokers know, not everyone who smokes is an addict.

Actually, you know nothing about me and I do clearly understand it.

Yes, I appreciate that the occasional smokers are not addicts.

Not yet. Never will you meet a so-called occasional smoker telling you "I actually plan to smoke every day, but I don't want to rush anything for now."
It has been proven that "light smokers" present health problems and risks and are more addicted than they believe. The funny thing is they will tell you "I can quit at anytime". Science proves them wrong.

I think people were talking about the people who have an occasional cigarette at a party or in the pub and not the people who seem to think it's morally acceptable to chain smoke next to kids (just because the law states that they can).

Still waiting for a thread about exhaust fumes. Was standing at a red light, besides me there was a family with kids and a stroller. Exhaust gases right on hight of the kids. Ruthless behavior of the drivers and irresponsible parents...

Is it okay to stab a smoker in the face, considering it is equally annoying?

I lived in California before coming here and there smoking in a public places has been banned since 1990. That is over 20 years. Therefore, I am frustrated by the ignorance of some people here and sidestream smoke that affects others. I do think smokers should have the right to smoke, just not in public places where it can affect non-smokers, besides myself children and babies. I hope this country follows Germany soon.
@crfesi I agree with your comments. I come from New Zealand and smoking is not as common these days and when I visit places in Europe I am blown away at how many people smoke. Maybe its just because we do not have as many people so it doesn't seem like as many are smoking! haha. Its only a matter of time before we see some changes hopefully!

Nah, in Switzerland it's because the average smoker smokes twice as many cigarettes as in other places.

I presume that was a post made in 2005 - because since then (and not limited to) the following countries have implemented bans on smoking in enclosed spaces and/or workplaces and/or stricter regulations on selling of tobacco:

Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Autria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bermuda, Bosnia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Falkland and Fareo Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Gibralter, Greece, Guatamala

(now I'm bored, but you get the picture)

Except in outside seating areas in restaurants (often covered) and almost anywhere else where people frequent, the air here is thick with smoke.

Other countries may indeed have the same regulations but the bans seem to be working and/or people are just a bit more considerate than the Swiss. (I expect it's a bit of both).
