| | | [Acceptable?] Breastfeeding in public
In the news this week is breastfeeding in public (German; 20 Minuten) based on a young mother who was asked (ie. told) to LEAVE Lakeside in Zurich as she started breastfeeding her child.
I can say I'd rather sit near a breastfeeding mother than have someone smoke next to me when I'm eating a meal.
So Boo! to you, Lakeside - I'll not be coming to your place again.

I think its acceptable and natural but then when you walk past a woman breastfeeding, it doesnt sink in what they are doing, your eyes slip and you quickyl realise then you find yourself feeling like the biggest pervert.
Not much of a change from my normal daily feeling but just thought I would vent the anger of the problem. |

I also doubt that any sane man would read the second option till the end.

Reminds me of a classic family guy quote - | Quote: | | | | Stewie (to a mother who was breastfeeding her child, after he swapped places with the kid): You call those cheap implants boobs? Those aren't boobs! They're lies! | | | | | | | This user would like to thank l00p for this useful post: | |

They're just boobs, half the population has 'em and they're main purpose is to feed a baby. I've never even understood why it's an issue.

It's what breasts are for! Some tend to focus on the recreational uses and forget this fact.
Warning - this is just wild speculation: but did a prudish middle-aged couple with no kids (and two dogs) complained to have her removed perhaps..?

Confounding actually, I have regularly seen topless bathers (women of course) at Züri lake over summer no-one seems to have a problem with that.
Was this just at the lakeside or in a restaurant?

by the photo, it seems like more than one lady is doing it, could be even more elsewhere.
Could be a bit more discreet than what she is portaying though.
breast feeders in public, topless swimmers, nudity on TV at 6pm, what is the difference?

It seems that this may be part of an international movement to promote breastfeeding.

What is frightening by this whole discussion is that if you look at the survey conducted by 20 minutes the split is 60/40. I simply fail to see what the problem is with a mother dealing with her babies in a natural way - okay if they are 5 years old then it is a bit different! I for one will actively not be visiting a Kramer establishment again - so draconian |

This reminds me of a funny story. This was about 8 yrs ago and my sister was flying to California with my then 6 week old neice. She had what you could call and abundance of milk. The little one started to cry so my sister took out her breast to start feeding her but before she could latch on milk shot over the two business men who were sitting next to her and hit the window. She said the look on their faces was priceless.

That story is hilarious, I'd be so embarassed!
I'm totally for breatfeeding in public though. It's one of the most natural things in the world. If grown ups are hungry, they go to a restaurant to eat. If a baby's hungry, it needs to breastfeed. So what's the problem?

I think it's perfectly acceptable to breastfeed in public but some (especially older generations) think differently so I think it would be a good idea to do it with a certain amount of discretion ... cover it up with a towel rather than exposing your kit to everybody
Heard that in London it's not allowed in most restaurants...is that right? Might delay the next trip to the inlaws in that case.

We've recently weaned our little 'un, but we never had a problem, although I was quite prepared to deal with one by making them eat my shoe, while still attached to my wildly swinging foot. Violence = bad, I know, but generally the people who would complain are the sort who deserve a bit of shoeing from time to time anyway.
It annoys me how people of my parent's generation are still very critical of breastfeeding and kept on at us to use bottle milk 'as the baby doesn't get enough food from breastfeeding'. Idiots - how do they think we managed to survive as a race for the last few hundred thousand years?
